RACE POWER MOTORSPORT

Recommended Posts

Currently in the dilema of considering an engine swap vr6 or 1.8t into my 94 2.0 16v 9a raddo. Or possibly getting the 16v block tinkered with by RACE POWER MOTORSPORT. Any 1 had any dealings with these price wise/quality etc

Put their name in the title mate (edit your first post) and you'll have a better chance of attracting anyone that's heard of them. :)

I got my lightened flywheel from RPM, no problems with that. I spent quite a while up there chatting to them about various things, they seemed very proffesional and were very helpful. I cannot comment on the quality of their engine work having not had any done, but I did see several VW flowed heads, and he was more than happy to explain what he was doing etc.

I suggest you go and talk to them.

I'd have thought the VR6 is not really worth considering beacuse you can buy a Corrado VR6. However if you want a 1.8t, I'm quite sure it it would be a better bet for a high power road engine ie a 210 or 225 bhp from an LCR, S3 or TT with std management revo'd to around 260bhp.

A mate from back in the day had his MK1 16v 2L done by them and it was superb. It was running standard cams and got 205BHP purely from head work a bit of injector fiddling and a superchip icon. Damn impressive and it was lovely power delivery on standard cams.

I have spoke these fellas on the phone before back in the day when I had a 205gti and he seemed quite clued up and gave me an honest opinion, But insisted on changing my piper cams for kent cams.(which they are a registered dealer of).Which put me off because I got the impression he was only trying to sell and promote his own stock.

I see they fettled with the rat look mk1 which belongs to PVW.

Suppose a trip to these over the next week is due, As they are local Northfleet/Dartford way I believe.

I'm using Racepower Motorsport at the moment.

All I can say is that it seems the work they produce is very good - particularly on the bottom end!!!! Jim is the main guy there and has been doing it for 50 years!!!! Yes he is in his 70's

Be careful though of who you get in touch with as there are a few goings on at the moment as they are splitting awayfrom an ex partner - they changed name temporarily to GP Speed Equipment but I believe are now Race Power Motorsport Ltd. They are also moving premises to an amazing new place in with the BTCC!!!!

They also will work with any cam you want to use as I wanted to use specifically the Schrick Assyemtric in mine and they said tehy would work with that. They really do know there stuff.

I would give Jim a call direct before you go down to make sure where they are. His telephone number is 07956 472676 and just let him know that I gave you his mobile!
