Whats a good price for S/H Mk4 Rear Calipers?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Just lost out on some Mk4 Calipers on Ebay so I'm gonna have to get some second hand ones :x .

Found a website for a Volks-apart that looked good- had Mk4 Caliper for £35ea or £75ea new. Is this a good price or could I get cheaper?

Should I get second hand ones or new?- Mk4's aren't gonna be that old so surely 2nd hand ones will be OK- will they :?

Cheers

I hunted around for ages for 2nd hand ones and after all that for another £60 you can have new ones and piece of mind, you will also need adaptors to fit onto the original pipework, unless your a rougher...

I fitted new ones in the end,you know what your buying and no exchange required from VW !!!

I think the pipes are £23 well they were last year.

Its a great mod,you wont believe the handbrake you have 8)

I got a pair of rears from a scrappy the other day in great condition for £20 the pair!!

Shame i'd already bought a set from vince for £200 posted but came with everything i needed at the time, the car was off the road and i needed it working.

Sorry the other pair went straight away, but if they have any more which is highly likely ill give youa shout. Will be going this sat morn.

Just mentioned these calipers to some VW specialist fella today when It went in for the engine and gearbox oil change- he reckons the Mk4's go just as quickly as all the others and he has had to change loads already. Bit confused now cos maybe a set of used Mk4 calipers might not be such a good idea after all- might have to go new after all :(

Says he can get new VAG rear calipers for £75 all in though so thats doesn't sound too bad

Yep, I've heard of mk4 calipers fail too but not in the same way as the mk2/3 ones seizing up - this is why they are an exchange part as altho they are re-buildable it's not cost effective for a garage (or there customers to do this..)

MK4 rears are £55 each from VAG plus you'll need the conversion hoses.

Same as standard I'm afraid... mk4 ones are the same size diam but 9mm thick as opposed to 10 but you need to use the mk2/3 setup any how because of the taper wheel bearings...

mk4 ones are supposed to be an alloy so you arnt supposed to get the seizeing up the same as mk2/3 ones.

I paid £66 each all in and no exchange so the old ones can go back on if cars sold at not the price I want.

that was at hawcos vw in Inverness.

they have been on a year and faultless.

I was advised to fit a new handbrake cable whilst it was all off so did that as well, unsure if I had to fit a mk2 corrado one or not

He has a point,Im no expert just they are on and have been so far

(touch wood)

incredible compared to the old mk2 efforts

its funny having a one click handbrake compared to seeing some of the photos of cars for sale with the handbrake rumped right up with me muttering ah it needs new calipers...
