Who's travelled the furthest for a car in one stint???

Recommended Posts

....having travelled a few hundred miles before to get a car, mainly corrado's, I wonder who's travelled furthest for a car in one stint???

Having woke up this morning with forum member rpmayne sitting outside my front door having been there since 0500 - drove all the up from Brighton overnight !!!!!!! (CRAZY    ) to then turn round and drive back almost straight away - i reckon a 750 mile round trip in one go is one hell of a stint!!!!!!!

So, my nomination goes to richard, rpmayne and he's poor girlfriend who he dragged along to drive his escort back (she looked well p155ed off trying to catch a few zed's under the duvet in the front seat at 0700 this morning)

CRAZY, I TELL YOU, CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!

My mate set off from Chichester to pick me up in London to drive up to Glasgow and across to the west coast to look at a car and them promptly turn round and drive back. Think total distance for him was 1,200 miles in all.

Farthest one is my Mk1 Rocco, came all the way from Munich, although I did have it transported across (after I'd been out by plane twice to view the car).

Second farthest one was for my current Rado, flight up to Aberdeen from B'ham, took the Rado with me, and drove the 600 odd miles back again, great :-)

Crazy? Nah, just dedicated

Furthest I've travelled is when I got lost on the way to one of the Go-Karting events in Hertfordshire. somehow I missed the last junction

( I swear it was the Aa route finders fault! )

And I ended up racking up about 550 to 600 miles in the end, car never messed up once, plus had a blast on the motorway after putting £40 worth of Optimax in there!

Flew from Aberdeen to Heathrow, tube from Heathrow to Victoria station, train to Canterbury, drove back to Aberdeen, all in the same day. My back was knackered when I got back. Well worth it though.

When I was living down in Brighton I went up to Aberdeen to view a Grinnall Scorpion (three wheels, 140 BHP, no doors, screen or roof) bought it and drove it back in torrential rain, round trip of just under 1200 miles in one day

flight the and only 600 miles back - no good - 750 mile round trip driving to richard still :)

seems most here are flights etc one way and then driving back - respect to rp and his girlfriend for the epic journey done last night/today

....i havent travelled as far as some of the fanatics on here but i travelled from southampton to pontypool - a round trip of 250+ miles, it`s the furthest i`ve travelled to view a car and i did so without seeing any pics of the offered car, it`s a long way to go to tell someone to f*ck off if the car was a lemon but alas it wasnt and it`s now my current corrado :)

N Wales to lands end in my old Scirocco Storm for the eclipse in 2000, was 10 hours non-stop.

I think I did a fair few miles when I drove from Las Vegas to the Grand Canon. Did it in one day, but it took 7 or 8 hours I think. Drove that in a convertible mustang, unfortunately a fairly new one, would have been much cooler in an old skool Mustang.

Longest journey in my G60 would have been Leeds to the G-Werks shed and back.

Actually, coming to think about it, I drove a Vectra for 7 hours only stopping twice for pee and tea.

Really uncomfy car, plus drove when I was really tired, done something like 700 odd miles..

from the South of France to the ferry at Calais in a 1992 VW Polo 1.3CL - I believe it was about 800 miles.

From South of Birmingham to Newcastle, sat an exam at Uni for 3 hours and then back home again. 460 miles in a Polo 1.05l breadvan. Seeing that most of that was over 80 mph and some of it over 90 that was a mission!!

From Lowerstoft (was there for a wedding do) to Barnsley (home) to pick up my Dad. Then to leafy Surrey to pick up my 2nd Corrado. Then back. Was a bloomin hot day too. Most of the Journey was in my Merc Vito - no aircon!!!

Well worth it though.....

also used to do Inverness to Cardiff and drive back again, about 1100 miles

Longest without stopping at all was Inverness to Clacton on one tank of juice, roughly 540 miles.

I do drive for a living though,so no probs really

come on guys - furthest FOR a car, not IN a car - we've all runs through the continent, but just to view a car, not sure if you're going to buy it etc.........

.........that the point of the thread - massive mileage that could end up fruitless....

Not all of us have girlfriends (mad enough) to take along to drive the other car back again ;-), hence airplanes are an ideal means of transport in that case :-)
