ABS Light

4months in and I'm still thoroughly enjoying corrado ownership but MOT coming up next month and I would appreciate ABS advice. I've got the following error on my 95 VR6.

 

VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-S

Control Module Part Number: 1H0 907 379 E

Component and/or Version: ABS/EDS TEVES 04

 

1 Fault Found:

 

00276 - ABS Outlet Valve: Left Rear (N136)

35-00 - -

 

My local vw specialist and previous owner suggested pump replacements but I have read all sorts of other success stories on here changing sensors and valve blocks etc. Before I start stocking up on 2nd hand parts has anyone had this very same fault and fixed it? Thanks

The pump and the valve block is one unit unfortunatly on UK Corrado's...

 

Before you change anything I would get the system bled with pressure bleeding kit and also check the ABS ECU connection (pass footwell) and the ABS relays (behing glove box)

 

The reason to check the above is that they are both in places that water could get in either from a leaking door membrane, windscreen or heater matrix...

ABS light comes on now and again. After I restart the car, the light disappears. The person who checked the car with the VAG computer didn't pick anything up apart from a power break, which was due to a battery change. Any ideas... could it be an ABS sensor???? Thanks

JamVR6, if the light comes on then a fault will be logged (if you have a VR6 which I assume you do) but may have been lost due to the battery issues... get it checked again and it will tell you what sensor if playing up...

You can also measure resistance across the sensors to locate a faulty one but VAGCOM is best...

My ABS light has not come back on for the last few weeks but I've ordered a replacement pump anyway through the parts gateway. Hopefully this will do the trick. If anyone else has had this fault code and resolved it another way please let me know. Thanks.

No, I think most people who get this fault wind up replacing the ABS pump unit.

Are these ABS pump units VR specific or are they the same on all the models ?

I think I read somewhere on here that they were different on the VR's. Best to check the part number on the top of the unit before buying a replacement. Part No. 1H2 614 217 A on my 95 VR6 if that helps.

The VR is the only Corrado that had EDL, which is operated by the ABS system so, yes, the VR uses a completely different ABS setup compared to the other Corrados.

Just passing on some info... even though problem persists. As recommended, had another Vagcom check which pointed the finger at a brake pedal switch, got this changed and guess what - ABS warning light still comes on though no apparent pattern or timing. Would you suggest another Vagcom check in case another problem shows up. Did 100 mile trip today and no sign of the light coming on. Has anyone had the same reading only for the problem to be something else? Thanks

Update- per Vagcom, two switches have been changed- one pointing at a brake pedal switch and another at the accelerator switch. Guess what - ABS warning light still comes on. The garage where I bought the car is taking the car to VW for the third time and it will be interesting to see what they say. I will pass on what I find out.

Accelerator switch? There's a throttle position sensor on there, but I didn't think there was a switch for the throttle .. ?

IIUC the brake sensor that the ABS uses is on the bottom of the master cylinder.

I've had a couple of ABS issues pop up with my VR6 on it recent service.. VAG-COM details as follows:

00276 ABS Outlet Valve; Left Rear (N136)

35-00 - -

00532 - Supply Voltage B+

Me being me, I havent got a clue what this means so would be grateful if someone could enlighten me and advise what to do to solve it?

The first one means the ABS pump is probably dying. The second one means the battery was disconnected at some point - OR your ABS circuit relay is dying ..

Not good news, on the whole. (I saw those two errors once or twice..)

Cheers for that (I think!). The guys at the garage said I should look out for a new or second hand ABS control unit - does this contain the pump, and is this what I should be going for?

Look for the ABS pump unit, there's plenty about and not too expensive either. The control unit *might* be at fault, but usually they're pretty reliable. The pump unit is known to be a weak point on this model of ABS system.

Having said that, it's worth pulling the panels off the front of the ABS controller (passenger footwell, left hand side) and removing the big multi-plug on top of the black box. If there's ever been any water ingress there they can get quite badly corroded, which can at least cause the B+ voltage error. The other error is almost 99% the pump unit itself.

I had 00276 ABS Outlet Valve; Left Rear (N136). Everyone I spoke to suggested the pump was dead or on its way out.

 

Had a new pump fitted and now my ABS and the ABS light are working correctly.
