Top Mount Replacement

Recommended Posts

I need to replace the front top mounts on my G60.

Any advice on how to do this - I'm looking to use the OEM ones!

you need,

17mm/19mm sockets and spanners.

10mm i think for the abs cable holder thingymajobba thats bolted to the shocker.

spring compressors/a must.

a weird tool thing to remove the top mount securing ring.

and a buzz gun would make it a hell of a lot easier to remove the top nut. :)

mark/scribe down the sides of the shockers/hubs before you remove them too, itll give you a rough guide for camber when you refit.

Shite!!!

Do you really need to re-set the camber? I thought the spring would drop down far enough to get the mount out! I'm running shorter springs which fully decompress when the car is raised off the ground!

ive always managed without m8 :D

as long as you really scratch down the side of the hub then you know its pretty much there when refitting...

there *may* only be a slight difference with having non worn top mounts.

i know you should really have it done by a pro,but its expensive and i only trust myself working on the car anyway

Tip ex good for marking, easy to see with little light too.

For the top nut I welded a bolt to a 19mm socket so I could fit the allen key down the middle. As for the top nut securing ring I somehow found myself in possesion of the proper tool, grinding down a bit of pipe to fit can also be done tho.

Half hour per side including jacking up and taking wheel off.
