Shark fin aerial

Recommended Posts

Just wondering how the reception is through them?

I know as standard the reception is awful, so I'm thinking of putting on a shark fin aerial.

Would look ok as well I recon....

thoughts?

AFAIK they're not FM aerials, they're for GPS...

Standard radio reception is only bad if the amplifier in the base of the aerial's knackered... Have a search, it's been discussed a bit... :)

Yeah, have seen, and known about the slack FM performance for ages, just put up with it!!

They're marketed on ebay as being FM/AM aeriels...

Thoughts on looks?

I recon they'd be ok, and if I changed my mind the old one could jsut swop back on.

Also it'd stop pikeys from pinching the screw off bit! (happened to my g-friends dads car parked outside his house... :x )

The ones youre referring too arent any good for GPS, as the aerial is the wrong size to recive decent GPS signals. the aerial is actually a coil inside the body (normall).

Try changing the amp first (maplin do them cheap) to see if it helps, then try with a fin aerial to see how it works after that. Then you'll know if the fin is actually any good or not.

Looks wise............................thats a whole other topic ;)
