Leather Recaro Door Card Late to Early(the other way)

I've got a set of early black leather front recaro door cards (+interior) arriving shortly from a LHD G60. Thing is the car's a new style interior i.e 1994 Vr6. I relaise that rear cards will be fine. However I have a few queries:

 

• Using the new style door handles can these fit old style doors and hence no need to change electric mirror switch positions.[/*:m:f9a78]
  
• Will the new style door pods fit old style cards and hence no need to change windows. (cover up the holes with some tweeters or the like on the old cards?????[/*:m:f9a78]
  
• Anyone got later style black recaro door cards looking for a striaght swap to match early car with the early cards. If interested I'll post pictures when they arrive????[/*:m:f9a78]

Your late handles won't fit the early cards mate, don't know about the pods. If you can be patient you could probably pick up a set of late black leather doorcards, either on the forum (Wanted or For sale sections) or E-bay. If not you'll have to swap door looms or at least electrical plugs!

Personally I'd hang on, you'll get them in the end.

the cards arent recaro they are just black leather easiest thing for you to do would be source late black leather door cards like colin says. alternatively get your cards retrimmed.

Your other problem is that LHD early cards will have a double-size window switch hole and mirrow switch hole in what is now the passenger door...

You can modify early doorcards to accept late handles, I have done this myself, they fit perfectly apart from right at the bottom of the handle where the door card profile doesnt quite meet the handle, but it's barely noticeable.

 

I fitted angled tweeters in place of the EW switch holes, but i'm not sure if late pods fit old cards (EDIT - yes they fit no probs!) ( i'm using audioscape pods). The hole for the old mirror switch is a problem i've not sorted yet, could either make a blanking piece from black plastic or fit a badge in its place.

 

I will post some pics of my doorcards if you are still thinking of converting them.

Im doing this myself, as I prefer the late styling, its really stupid, but i cant explain myself.

 

So far:

 

I used my late cloth door card as a template, marking out where they had been cut. I then cut into the early door cards, very carefully, to allow the late grab handles to fit.

 

I changed the speaker pods to late ones, you just need to find the 3 screws on the back of the door card. 2 will be covered with the spongey stuff, so just wrip it and swap them round.

 

I also slightly trimmed the holes for the door handles to make them fit over the late handles, and the hole in the driver door card for the mirror switch, i have filled with an alpine tweeter (I had to cut the pass door card to fit the other one).

 

The cards fit perfectly but there are 2 holes, where the early switches would have gone. This is where im stuck at the moment. I can either fit early switches as dummys or use the leather i cut out of the door cards and fill them in.

tweeters are above the grab handle, in the hole for the early electric mirror switch on driver side, and cut out in pass side.

 

Maybe i could make a plastic blanking panel, with "limited edition karmann interior" written on it lol.

the mirror controls and controls for both windows will all be on the wrong side :lol:

I uused early window switches and wher the mirro switch goes installed a tweeter and on teh right hand side cut a hole in the card to fit the matching tweeter.....If leather right hand drive cards come up at the right price then I'll do the swapp but IMHO there isn't a lot in it!!!!!!!!
