Lippy 0 Posted May 15, 2006 bad news mate, let me know how you get on - my window has been a bit rattly this week - I need to check it out make sure it doesnt get any worse. I only dropped the window to listen to a F430 drive past!

16vradge 0 Posted May 15, 2006 You could try prop the window with a length of wood, dunno if you'll be able to squeeze it in through the holes in the inner door skin though. If you can you need to make make it shorter than the height of the door then slide a smaller piece beneath it to hold the glass up (like an upside down T). I once did this on a mini - its a bit crude but it worked.
ben16v 0 Posted May 15, 2006 thanks 16vradge, i`ll try that
16vradge 0 Posted May 15, 2006 Have a look in the breakers section at the back of the autotrader. There might be a few specialist VW breakers near you. Theres a few in Leeds/bradford area listing C's, and many are parts off the shelf/poss delivery. Oh and take it steady when you put the wood in :norty:  , don't want you to mark the outer door skin!
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 15, 2006 In terms of replacement they're a chore, but doable. Be wary of anything non genuine when replacing it. Just above where the speaker sits there's a flat section in the door with 3 (or 4 IIRC) very big rivets that need drilling out, these hold the motor to the door. Another 2 need to come out that hold the vertical window guide to the door. The VW regulator/motor assembly comes with the correct rivets and you need a hefty old rivet gun to do the motor ones!! So much so you might need to use some smaller ones! Once the rivets are free, undo the two 10mm bolts that hold the glass to the window mech and tape it to the window frame in the fully raised position. Then you need to remove the whole regulator assembly through the small gap! Takes a while to find the right angle!

Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 15, 2006 Driver's side is "Offside" mate. Nearside being passenger side, because it's 'near' the kerb, LOL! I'm being serious! That's where it came from :-)
