Problem with VR6

Recommended Posts

Ok here we go.

Brother has just puchased a VR6 corrado (1992 VR) and it has a slight miss fire but seams to clear when its warm until you put your foot down a bit.

I have replaced the rotor arm, dizzy cap, plugs and leads. car starts ok but a soon as you rev it hard it starts to miss and stays missing. Traced it to cylinders 5 & 6 and both have a spark. When it's ticking over and missing there is no smoke just a smell of fuel.

I tried to start it and left it on tick over for a while until it was warm. Went for a drive and all was well and the miss fire when pushed has now stopped. went to visit a mate and the car was left for 30 mins and was still warm when re started and it performed as it should.

Went to start it tonight when cold (starts fine) no miss fire until it was reved.

Thinking it could be the temp sensor ????? as it may be over fueling when cold.

Any help woud be great.

Fuel smell is coming from the exhaust pipe not from the engine bay.

Fuel pump sounds ok.

Could be blocked injector. Have thought about running some injector cleaner through it.

dubvrs I can scan your ecu if you want. Send me pm if your interested.

Cheers for that but mate is coming down today with his VAGCOM.

It does it everytime in the same way not random at all.

Start it and leave ticking over to get to normal running temp take it out and it's fine.

Start it and rev it a bit or drive normal it will start miss firing and stay miss firing only running on the first 4 cylinders with a smell of fuel from the exhaust.

Not yet still looking into it.

Vagcom did not throw up any faults just saw that the temp sensor was a bit all over the shop so changed that but still got the same problem.

Second car so no rush.

I have pritty much the same issue and have replaced as you have (rotor arm, dizzy cap, plugs and leads - also tried different plugs, changed fuel pump, and 10mm leads all which slight improvments but no overall solving).

Have checked Vagcom but only issue that was thrown up was the knock sensor and nothing else.

The only thing that I have found to help was changing the fuel (used to run religously on Opti which seemed to make it worse) and now am running on BP which seems to help.
