Smoking Vr6

I'm looking at buying a 2.9 VR6. I've just been told it smokes on lifting off the gas only? and the chains rattling a little. I've just rang a mate who's had a few and he's told me to stay away as they're prone to go on no6 piston which'll mean money. any other views would be apreciated, thanks.

Lifting off the gas is head damage isn't it? Valve stem seals or something?

 

I wouldn't buy a vr that was already smoking unless it was a good price. Recon had can be had for 400 + fitting though which isn't the end of the world.

 

If its the bottom end forget it :)

It's going to need a head job and chains minimum..... don't bother, find another.
