HID into Rado lights

Recommended Posts

Hi managed to get a set of 6000k HID Philips kit for less than £200 and wanna put it into my rado. Just wondering can the standard reflectors take the heat? What are they made of plastic or metal? any help on tis appreciated.

No issue with heat - however HIDs are not designed for reflector lights - you will not get a good light pattern.

They are deisnged for use in projector headlamps only.

Mostly because normal bulbs have caps on them so they only shine light backwards - into the reflectors. HIDs don't have this so shine light everywhere, ruining your bream pattern.

£200?

They're sub-£80 on ebay...

Just get some decent ones and you do get the deflectors. They check for that very thorough during what the Dutch call 'APK' (I believe it's called MOT in the UK?) and they didn't have any problems with the beam pattern that my HID's where producing.

If you can get deflectors then that should be fine..

But that does limit the kits you can get... good luck with that search!

The set i got is from Philips and there is deflector in them for the H4 style replacement/upgrade kit, so i think I should be ok will fix them in a day or 2 whem i got the time.

Beware of the GBP80 ones as hey are from China and poor quality, the ballast & the bulb have been known to blow pretty easily.
