ReekieVR 0 Posted January 12, 2007 Just wanted to say - i got a quote from HIC today and it was the cheapest by far ! Plus there is more benefits than ever ! Renewal from Admiral was good at 290 with no frills. HIC came back with 265 , allows for mods, courtesy car, protected no claims. Great news. Well done HIC. Above based on full nc, 34 yo, no conv, garaged, 7k miles.
Jim 2 Posted January 12, 2007 I don't seem to have the same luck. Just spoke to a really helpful chap at HIC.. he came back with a total of £825 :( Gonna have to do some phoning around as thats just no where near what I had in mind. I don't understand it - i've got 7 years no claims, garage my car, have cat1 alarm on it, live in a really really posh area in a block of old people flats! I've got no convictions / points, have had no accidents.. I mean what the hell am I missing out? Can someone please help me as its the same year after year - I seem to be striving to reach this goal of cheap insurance yet can never get it. Help! ReekieVR 0 Posted January 12, 2007 Thats weird Jim. Just completed the policy propa and I am on a classic policy with Kinetic. Seems that apart from age we are pretty similar. I payed ~ £780 on the Tiv with 0 yrs no-claims ! Your card must be marked.......
Jim 2 Posted January 12, 2007 They guy came back and said he had to "talk to his boss to adjust the premium" as it was coming out at nearly £1,200!! Gonna have to try Brentacre next I guess.. they've always been really good for me. I wish the car wasn't modded in a way - just got a price from Direct Line of £340 without mods! steve_16v 0 Posted January 12, 2007 That's odd Jim, I spoke to martinb at HIC on monday about mine and was quoted £597, and mine's kept on the drive, only have 2 years no claims (3 with elephant but nobody accepts their stupid 10 month accelerator), 3 points from an sp30 in september, and an "unknown combined alarm/immobilizer" (all I know is it's a Toad, could be a cat 1 but I don't have a certificate). It's limited to 6000 miles though. Need to get a few more quotes yet before commiting, the excess was about £425, which is a lot higher than I would like. Jim 2 Posted January 12, 2007 Yeah - this is what confuses me. The reason, I was told, is that the car (like all Corrado's) is very very high up on the insurance stakes. He said they have a rating that goes from 1 to 50 and the Corrado 16v comes in at 44! But I don't understand then how folks on here who are younger than me and have tuned G60's, etc less NCD, are getting lower quotes! I don't understand it. I told him that i'd actually gotten quotes through online insurances on a Mercedes SL55 AMG that came in at less and he was laughing about it.. but the sad fact that its true. steve_16v 0 Posted January 12, 2007 It's crazy, out of curiosity I've got quotes for stuff like Lambo's, Aston's, etc. and the premiums are usually about the same as the Corrado! There must be something making yours higher though, loads of miles? business use? proximity to dodgy areas?
Jim 2 Posted January 12, 2007 I said to quote me for 12,000 miles.. no business use - just the social / domestic / pleasure. I do live near Coventry and Birmingham which do have some bad areas in them and even Leam has a few crap bits to it.. but its not like I back onto a bad area or anything! I wish I had the answers.. I really do!
ReekieVR 0 Posted January 12, 2007 You could try putting an elderly relative on the policy - ive heard that can help. Maybe advanced driving course?
Jim 2 Posted January 12, 2007 Yeah - that might be the next step if I don't get any success after doing a bit of phoning around...
steve_16v 0 Posted January 12, 2007 Limiting the mileage makes a fair difference too, so if you don't actually do 12,000 a year it's worth telling the insurer.
Jim 2 Posted January 12, 2007 Yeah - sadly I do. I got the car in er... Jun 06 and i've done 7,000 since getting it - though that did include like 1,200 going to Germany and back!
ReekieVR 0 Posted January 12, 2007 Its ok Jim, i figured it out - they saw this photo of you in the members gallery threads. Rekon id charge you 800 notes too
Jim 2 Posted January 12, 2007 lol - that was a few years ago. I don't get that drunk much any more! :)
CazzaVR 0 Posted January 12, 2007 Jim, have you tried Adrian Flux yet? Worth a shot, and mention you're a CCGB member. Tell them you've had a quote elsewhere for around £350 and see what they can do. Also try Admiral- got the same quote from them- £331 all mods declared, fully comp, 10k miles limit, protected no claims etc. I've got seven years no claims. And that's for a VR. Don't understand your quotes at all! Bloody insurance companies- law unto themselves!
Jim 2 Posted January 13, 2007 Are Adrian Flux a good / safe bet for insurance these days? Anyone had to claim with them and have any positive stories?
CazzaVR 0 Posted January 13, 2007 Never had to claim, but the woman who I dealt with the other day was excellent. Very impressed with the service, although, like with anywhere, it often depends who you speak to.
ReekieVR 0 Posted January 13, 2007 I rang Adrian Flux for a quote and they said they were the same company as HIC so the quote would be the same !
joebloggsVR69 0 Posted January 13, 2007 They're owned by the same people, but quote independently - however you cant play Flux off against HIC for a cheaper quote, as they wont play ball  My insurance with Flux was about £400 less than the quote from HIC....
steve_16v 0 Posted January 15, 2007 Well I went with HIC for mine, after a bit of phoning around for other quotes they reduced the price from £597 to £545 and the excess from £425 to £250 . Could probably have got brentacre to beat it but HIC did a better job of selling their policy and I didn't have time to spend all day talking to insurance companies. Maybe if you spend time calling different insurers you might get yours down to a sensible level Jim?
Jim 2 Posted January 15, 2007 Yeah - I plan to do a bit of that this year mate. I'm not due to renew till end of Feb but just saw an advert for HIC on here and thought i'd see what sort of money we were talking. Was definately more than I was expecting.. I'm not due to renew till end of Feb but just saw an advert for HIC on here and thought i'd see what sort of money we were talking. Was definately more than I was expecting.. Hello mate, We have one of our underwriters (kinetic, who someone has already mentioned) who are doing some really good deals for corrado's at the mo but they wont quote if you are doing more than 10,000miles a year. Any way of getting your mileage under that? PM me your surname, postcode and phone number if you like and i will see if i can improve on what we offered you! 8) Did you mention you were a mod on here? Martin :)
Jim 2 Posted February 2, 2007 Well did more phoning around today - spoke to Brentacre who gave me a quote of £534.. but spoke to Martin just now (hadn't seen this message sooner!) - just got an absolutely blinding quote. I doubt i'll beat it! £456 with a very good excess - and another £16 if I want an agreed valuation! Very nice! :) I'd be very surprised if I go with anyone else so.. thanks Martin! Just going to do the obligatory phoning around over the next few days and hear lots of dissapointed insurers say "We can't match that!" :)
