VR6 ECU problems

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I am having some problems with my storm, the no5 injector is staying open all the time(ie spraying continous), I have tried another injector and its the same, I have also bypassed the loom from the ecu to the injector and still the same so that leaves me with the ecu beign at fault. Can the ecu be repaired or am I better trying to find a secondhand one? any other ideas?

Thanks in advance

Dave

I'd say that your best bet would be to get the car tested on a VAG-COM system to find out what error codes are being generated... That'll tell you for definate if it's a dead ECU (you'll not be able to talk to it!) or something else that you'd not know about otherwise...

I don't know anyone in Ireland that's got a VAG-COM, but some of the Irish guys here may...

Hope you get it fixed soon! 8)

Hi Henny,

Thanks for the reply

I have run VAG-COM and it is not showing any fault codes, The car is running fine on the other 5 cylinders. Tearing my hair out here as I just can't figure it out.

Could the wiring to injector no 5 be at fault?

It could be the ECU I supposes as the injection is sequential on the VR6, so maybe the controller for that injector has died. Not sure where you can get a s/hand one from though.

There is a big round wiring connector on the head, try removing that and checking all the connectors are sound. To remove it you unclip the forward facing clip and then twist (quite firmly) toward you and then it'll pop off.

I would also call Vince at Stealth Racing as he knows the VR6 engine like the back of his hand.

Hi Kev

Thanks for your reply

I have bypassed the wiring loom from the ecu to the injector just to be sure as I was thinking the same.

I wish it had been as it would have been an easy fix.

I think it must then only be the ecu, I am getting 12 volts on the wiring to all the injectors, then when connected to the injectors the voltage drops to 0 volts except for no5 which stays at 12 volts an keeps the injector pumping constantly.

Do you think it should show up on vag-com?

I will give vince a try on monday

Thanks

Dave
