Ferrari 360cs

The 360CS made 425bhp from 3.6 litres not under 2 litre

Honda K20A2 (UK) - 98.5 BHP / L - Civic Type R

Honda K20A (JDM) - 110 BHP / L - Civic Type R (Japanese)

Honda B16B - 116 BHP / L - EK9 Civic Type R

Honda F20 - 120 BHP / L - S2000 the s2000 has to be the best production bhp per litre car out there me thinks

the Caterham R500 has 128 bhp/litre

911 gt3 115bhp per litre but obviously not under 2 litre

The Lotus Exige in standard form (not the Exige S as it's supercharged) is 190bhp, not quite but almost the 200bhp level. But that is from a 1796cc Engine. Therefore it does break the 100bhp per litre at 105.8bhp per litre!

sure there will be some cosworth engines knocking about, depends on them being NA rather than FI

Loads of the Niche market cars like Caterham and Tiger, or any other tuned bike engined car, but not exactly mass produced. The closest is probably the Caterham superlite, @ 210 BHP from a 2.0 duratech, so 105 bhp/l and at 500kg, 420bhp/ton

But as you say it's not really a "production" car!

I cant think of anything that tops the exige that comes into production bracket. And even the Exige is pushing the boundaries of production!

They may not be mass produced but Caterhams (factory built ones) and Lotus's are still classed as production cars, in fact the Caterham R500 held the Autocar 0-100-0 mph production car world record in 2004. That has 230bhp from a n/a rover 1.8 k-series engine (128bhp per litre!).
