Badger 0 Posted March 28, 2007 I popped in to a local garage the other day and sitting in the corner all caked in mud was a M-reg VR6. After a bit of a chat i discovered that the car had been taken in px on a newish jag and that it would be heading off to auction, so smelling a bargin i enquired a little more. It's had one owner from new, 50,000 miles, and a full vw service history! It's a dark green, almost Dragon Green, and has a complete black leather interior. I have taken it out for a quick blast and everything seems fine. All the electrics work, the brakes have recently been replaced by VW so there all good. The body has got the add scratch and small dent in places but apart from that all seems good. Now before i sign on the dotted line is there anything else i should be looking for? herisites 0 Posted March 28, 2007 Corrado Buying Guide sounds like a good one, the colour might be classic green which is darker then dragon green.

Badger 0 Posted March 28, 2007 So what sought of value would you put on this car in this condition, minus the poo?
Goldie 2 Posted March 28, 2007 Full history and 50k.... Got to be worth 4k depending on its condition, if its spotless could be worth more....
DEL VR6 0 Posted March 28, 2007 50k is a good mileage, and if it aint been messed around with its a good find, especially as its got leather too.
toon vw 0 Posted March 28, 2007 sounds like a belter but don't act too keen, kick the tyres a bit, rub those car park dents & just let him know you only really looking for an old smoker to get you to work & back but you MIGHT take it off his hands   how much is he wanting for it btw....getting me coat :-P
skinnyman9000 0 Posted March 28, 2007 Dont let him know that you know what it is, as he'll realise that its worth more if you're too interested in it.
Badger 0 Posted March 28, 2007 The interior is in excellent condition, and the leather has worn well. The only fault i could find was one of the rubber hangers had broke on the parcel shelf. The one corner of the front bumper has brushed against somthing hard and the paint has rubbed down to the black plastic. The rear bumper looks as though it has reversed in to a pole at some point, cracking the paint and also slightly denting the panel above it. I have found two small rust patches, about 50p size, one on the lower half of the drivers door and one on the lower part of the n/s quarter panel, just in front of the rear wheel. The rest of the car has the anoying tiny marks and scratches in the paint but i would hope that alot would disappear with a good buffing. The garage have given it a quick clean and it does look better but now you can see all the marks that were lost in the mud before, oh and they blacked the tyres!! So is there anything that goes wrong on these cars, anything that i should definately have a look at before i pay the man?

chrishill 0 Posted March 28, 2007 So is there anything that goes wrong on these cars  you're asking the wrong people! TBH though at 50k miles theres not a great deal thats going to need doing. One of the major things is the timing chains but that's normally in relation to high miles, so no worries there. check the sunroof tilts AND slides, if the electrics are otherwise ok then it sounds like a good find. From the sounds of things the last owner didnt take very good care of the bodywork, but that's easy to sort in comparison to a dodgy engine. Keep in mind the guy probably doesn't want it hanging about his garage, its a hassle to take it to auction and they'll take a cut of the (usually next to nothing) he'll get for the car, so market value doesn't apply in this instance, you're doing him a favour! ask him how much he thinks he'll get at auction for it, then offer 20% less :D
Badger 0 Posted March 28, 2007 I tested all the electrics and everthing worked fine so no worries their. The guy who owned the car has his own company and had many vans/cars that he could use instead of the Corrado so it rarely came out of his garage except for the occasional game of Golf, (hence the scratches in the boot), I remember seeing the car at his house a few years ago and it was spotless with im sure just 29000 on it. Since then he's moved out in to the country and is doing a house up as well as running his company so the cars been used alot more and i guess he's got other things on his mind than looking after his car. Shame really. Any way, im going back to the garage tomorow and hopefully going to do a deal with the man in the suit. Thank you all for your help and advice, and i will let you know what happens. I may even stick some pics up.
Badger 0 Posted March 28, 2007 Oh just one other thing, what are these cars like to insure? Can you direct me to any good companies?
Guest Posted March 28, 2007 group 18 :D try Adrian Flux mate, that who i'm with, and they are half the price of a smaller broker
KADVR6 0 Posted March 28, 2007 do it :) as for insurance im the same age as you (old) and mine costs £485 FC protected/insured value etc etc. all mods declared, i'm with brentacre but HIC seem very good also. or look here. http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewforum.php?f=30 now go and buy it
dinkus 10 Posted March 28, 2007 Parcel shelf straps are £3 new from the dealers  VRs are group 18, so not the cheapest thing to insure. HIC seem to be pretty competitive, but shop around :) As far as parts that need replacing go - not much should need doing to a 50k miler, but it is still a 10+yr old car so rubbery bits in the suspension probably won't be at their best. The best way to tell is take it out for a drive - it should feel properly planted up to silly speeds. If it starts feeling all vague and wandery over 50 then the rear axle bushes need replacing. It's very common on VW's and is just a result of the rubber going soft. That's the most expensive thing that could need changing suspension wise and costs about £300 to get done at a VW specialist. If you know what you're doing then it'll cost £50 for the bushes and a day of swearing. Otherwise, things like top mounts, front wishbone bushes and shocks would be the other candidates, but aren't that expensive (under £50 a pop for each of the parts) The brakes sound like they're sorted, so shouldn't have any problems there tho :)
