dont know if i should be asking this but i have a van supplied by work that i feel could perform slightly better than it does now . vehicle in question : iveco daily 2.5 16v hpi. limited to 76mph, now i do alot of driving very early in the morning through the week when there aren't many other vehicles about. is their an inexpensive , invisinble to the untrained eye mod/mods that could perk up those long journeys?

Which Iveco Daily is it? Is it over 3.5t or do you tow?

 

Are you sure it's a 2.5 and not a 2.3? It's normally a case of plugging a computer in and changing the speed limiter. Takes about 5 mins to do but if you go to a dealer, they charge half an hours labour to do it.

Iveco put a 180bhp engine in some of the 3.5t vehicles! You have to set the speed buzzer to stop yourself going over 100mph! The trouble is, if you're in one of the longer wheelbases and you overtake a truck or something overtakes you, the whole vehicle pulls to the side. Quite worrying at times!!

New legislation came out at the turn of the year, anything above 3.5ton is now limited to 90KPH (57MPH) :mad:

As far as I was aware, that is only the case if the vehicle is driving in Europe. I was under the impression that as of 01.01.08, everything over 3.5t had to then have a speed limiter setting of 90kph.

 

I still don't understand why it's been limited to 76!!!

I got a new van in Jan before we knew this and all the other guys were laughing at me until there vans went for MOT :lol:

If the speedo is 10% over-reading, as per spec, it's probably actually bang-on 70mph...

If the vehicle was registered before a certain year then they had to be limited as well as vehicles travelling in Europe from the 1st Jan 2007.

 

I will check for definate tomorrow as I'm pretty certain that this is the case. You watch - I'll be totally wrong........ and I'm supposed to be selling vehicles between 3.5t - 44t vehicles!!! :oops:

76mph will be a little tedious, get your company to change from iveco's to mercedes, My 2006 Vito 115cdi will pull just short of 130mph and its as steady as a rock, its been remapped and makes 204bhp & 360Nm of torque. It absolutely canes a load of cars out there and i can still fit 3 bikes in the back ! Its my perfect vehicle hence why my corrado is only a "toy"

What sort of revs is the van at when its doin 76mph? it isnt revving out i guess?

Try sitting at 57MPH in the same size van and only cause it's twin wheel based you have to go slower...... on the motorway it's an absolute nightmare and very tedious.

You pull out to overtake an Artic lorry and it takes about a minute to pass, and end up with a queue of cars behind wondering why you don't put your foot down.

Dangerous on country roads too if someone is going 50MPH in front, your sitting there thinking you have the power but when you pull out the limiter kicks in and then your stuck half way through the overtake :shock:

The vans don't rev out with the limiter on them as it's wired up to the accelerator and gearbox, you can put foot to the floor and it will sit at 57MPH with normal revs. Only way to get it over 57MPH is to take it out of gear going downhill :roll:

the legal limit is 70 on a duel carrage way, and motorways, do you drive that much on them? cos if not then the national limit is 60 (except in other speed restriction areas of course) and you dont want to get caught doing anything far over the in a 60 limit!! But that doesnt help if you need to over taken quickly

When you drive a van you do tend to spend alot of time on the motorway, and it's the other cars wanting to go 70+ who wonder why you don't put your foot down??

No it's only 60 for anything over 3.5 tons isn't it? A small van can legally do 70 on a d/carriageway or motorway.

 

I remember driving the original ford cargos when I was much younger - I'm sure the limiter could be removed just by taking out a fuse!

I always do 70 whereever I can in our shed, erm Escort van, but then again, you could almost argue, that Escort vans (yes, Jack the Lad image) aren't real big vans like Iveco, Transits and suchlike. They still count as vans at the Dartford crossing, though :-(

yeah, nearly twice as much to cross than a car but still twice as slow and half the size of a 4x4. dunno how they work that out!!
