jamesvr6 0 Posted April 17, 2007 hello everyone, I have been invited to a Toyota Supra shoot out on saturday at Santa Pod, they don't have enough runners so I am having a go too. I have never run my VR6 up the strip and am interested to see how it compares to a Series 1 Escort RS Turbo I had many years ago. That was pushing out well over 200 BHP and my best time was 15.2 secs. What do you think I will do? I have Full Magnex and K&N Induction kit, also have LSD. I hope I don't get hammered too much by my friend in his Twin Turbo Supra!! Anyone think I'll do ok?
CazzaVR 0 Posted April 17, 2007 You should get between 15 and 16 seconds. Don't like your chances against the Supra though!
Rob Heath 0 Posted April 17, 2007 I would also say around 15 seconds. To put it in perspective, my friend has a mk2 golf with a 2.9 VR out of a rado, standard apart from a 6 branch manifold and he was runnin 14.6 @ the pod on sunday, but a mk2 is obviously a bit lighter than a corrado
CrazyDave 0 Posted April 17, 2007 My standard VR was 15.4 if I remember correctly? But I only did one run and the start wasn't great (too aggressive with the clutch and span the wheels a bit!). Twin turbo Supra.... 'twin turbocharged 2JZ-GTE making 276 bhp (239 kW) and 260 ft·lbf (352 N·m) of torque for the Japanese version' = No chance in a standard VR6 I'm afraid. Rob Heath 0 Posted April 17, 2007 Maybe the person with the fastest corrado on here could go and lend some support and try and spank a couple of the jap cars We were all laughin on sunday when that rado beat the evo, haha

NickVR6 0 Posted April 17, 2007 Mine ran a 15.07 at inters pre-charger with just a BBTB, zorst and filter. Its really hard to hit 60 in second, i kept missing out on that by abt 50rpm :-( Great buz though mate, even if you run 17s you'll still be grinning for a month
jonnyboyo 0 Posted April 18, 2007 Hey you might not do to bad you no. A mate did a 'run what ya brung' up at York raceway in his dyno proven 301bhp Evo 6 Tommi Makkinen, and he was pants. He only managed low 15's and did about 3 runs. Ok it was the first time he'd ever done a 1/4 mile, which was strongly backed up by his reaction times (which were laughable) and the fact he refused to dump his clutch for a good launch. Plus, them Supras have gotta weigh some coz there HUGE. I had a last shape GT4 before my C and was told that they were heavy cars compared to scoobs and evo's, so don't right yourself off yet dude! Its all in the reaction time and launch. Make your car as light as poss, put smaller wheels on if your on 17's, make sure your running Shell V-Power and chuck some good octane booster in. If all else fails, use the force!!! Kick some butt man :blackeye:
jamesvr6 0 Posted April 18, 2007 My car runs on 15's so that should be good, will take note on the octane booster, do you suggest any one in particular? I was always really good on reaction times, last time in my RST my best was 0.258 secs!! Out of interest Nickvr6, how come you were having trouble hitting 60? I have no problem with that at all. Neil VR6 0 Posted April 18, 2007 On a RWYB day they don't take into account reaction times, they start the timing when you "cross the beam". Might be different for an organised day but usually they only time the actual run.
Colley 0 Posted April 18, 2007 I cant say from first hand experience but a couple of mates who go to Jap meets like these say the Supra isnt that good at 1/4 miles as they struggle to get them off the line well?
jonnyboyo 0 Posted April 18, 2007 NEIL G60 they defo logged the reaction times at York raceway. It was a full on day event with all manner of weird and wonderfull cars from big block nitrous injected yank tanks to tricked out Skylines!! JAMESVR6 i'm not sure what octane booster is good unfortunately. Hopefully some of the VR and G60 guys & galls have experience????? Halfords sell some from the company NOS. It reads well claiming to raise RON by a good few points. Its about a tenner i think. That one is prob better than the cheap Wynns or STP tackle. Oh, and good reaction time there lol!! I have a Series 1 RST tucked away in a garage and know all to well how easily the wheels spin on them. Lord knows how you didn't sit there on the line doing a burn out with 200bhp!! :shocked!:
Rob Heath 0 Posted April 18, 2007 Also, make sure you use best fuel e.g V power or Ultimate (every little helps)
jonnyboyo 0 Posted April 19, 2007 Just don't go for the 'every little helps' Tesco super unleaded
