windscreen chips

Recommended Posts

Ive picked up 2 small chips in my windscreen not even as big as a 5p piece. Trouble is they are both on the drivers side of the screen. Will this balls up an mot pass?

I had a chip repaired in my screen by a mate of mine with a winscreen company a few weeks ago. According to him the chips have to be directly in the line of driver's sight and the size of a 2p to be an MOT fail. Sounds like you should be OK.

If you've got fully-comp insurance, you can usually get chips repaired for free...

paying the excess?

You see alot of these in supermarkets at the moment - they charge the insurance about £40 a chip...

If it's not gone all the way thru, less than 5p in size and clean (ie a new chip) they can usually make it invisible

For a chip NOT to fail the mot it has to be smaller than 10mm at its longest. And obviously in the drivers field of vision.

Had mine mot'd in October with a chip and enquired first whether it would fail. It was border line, but passed :D
