golf turbo brakes

Recommended Posts

alright, sorry if im stomping on old ground but......

i have been offered a set of second hand 288mm front discs, pads, and calipers for a decent price. They appear to be the same as the ones off a golf turbo.

Questions a. Will these fit under my solitudes?

b. Will i need any other parts?

c. Is this the real life?

d. Is this just fantasy?

peace, cheers

cheers guys, i will go ahead and buy them then :D .

while we are at it, i will be needing rear brakes and bearings.

my pet tech mentioned that they come as one unit, is this right?

can i get bigger rear discs? i know they dont really do much braking but they will look puny next to my phat 288s  !

plus opinion please: should i leave my new calipers red or get them painted black?? :?:

cheers

peace

stu

Brake calipers should only be painted red if you *are* a world rally champion. Everyone else should leave them black or metal coloured...

Yep, 288s definitely fit behind Solitudes....just.

Gloss black calipers, smoothrite works a treat.

Rear brakes. Hard to upgrade due to their pre-war design.....but you can now get a nice Wilwood 4 pot caliper with built-in handbrake....you just need bigger discs, carriers and longer handbrake cables......but try finding a larger rear disc that is also a hub and bearing carrier!!

Need to bolt on MK4 rear hubs, which have seperate discs and bearings, then you can really start playing.....but again, different rear axle arrangement..... so, you have to ask yourself if being a tart with monster rear brakes is worth the aggro

nice one, thanks for the advice but i think i will just stick to the standard rear setup. with the 288s up front that should give me plenty stopping power for what i need.

thanks for all the advice from everone
