OMG has it been this long!

well im posting to get the kick start to finish this car all over again.

its been off the road since 2008 and on axle stands for a year as i got a new subframe, painted etc,but the captive nuts for the subframes were screwed and i gave it away to get sorted and never seen it again.

so i finally picked up a new one today thanks to a good lad called jamie.

it doesnt fit,i think its either a mk3 or vr6 one ,the rear brackets are too long and the rear engine mount is different, back to the drawing board

ok all is not lost after all,

i searched the net for info on subframes ,and found out that the mk3 golf subframe will fit the 4 main bolts that hold it to the car,the trailing bracket which therado has but is shorter and mk2 golf subframe does not have is a little too long but is suitable to be drilled to fit the rado.

the wishbones on this mk3 subframe were the same as the rado ones(16v not vr)although the steering rack was different (only where the steering knuckle joins)the length was the same.

the other problem encountered was the mk3 subframe rear engine mount is completely different to rado /mk2 golf subframes so this was solved by using an abf 16v engine bracket.

i hope this info can be usefull to people because its took me a lot of searching and a bit of guesswork to get here, but the conclusion is a mk3 golf subframe will fit your 16v with a few mods, but good news as there is plenty mk3s out there with decent subframes to replace your old rotten corrado ones
