GUS 0 Posted November 2, 2003 Just got the car serviced, was informed that the water pumps on its way out. has anyone any idea how one of these costs for a G60, and is it a big job to replace. Gus.
vr6storm 0 Posted November 2, 2003 going by the VW partsclub website(which is really on available to VWCCGB members)here is the part number and full retail price for the waterpump....+VAT of course as for fitting most competent garages should be able to do this no problem.........might be an idea to get the timing belt changed at the same time if it hasn't been done recently as they will be into that area of the engine.......i reckon approx 3 hours labour at the most.......maybe less  waterpump All models excluding 2.9i VR6.........037121010BX...........£28.

stevemac 0 Posted November 2, 2003 is it a big job to replace. Gus. A real bummer of a job mate - alternator off & charger off just to get near it. No requirement to touch the timing belt though.
h100vw 0 Posted November 2, 2003 Defo a bum job that. Easily take 3 hours before you have it running again. Worth changing belts while you are doing the job. Not a lot of extra time to add on. Gavin
Furkz 0 Posted November 2, 2003 mine took 2 hours to do which was pretty good but couldnt bleed it properly was a nightmare

No requirement to touch the timing belt though. i know there isn't a requirement to change the timing belt......but as you are working around that area you are as well getting the timing belt changed at the same time are you not????especially if there is no sign of it being replaced recently
Furkz 0 Posted November 2, 2003 might as well get the charger done too as its out LOL soz i get my coat

stevemac 0 Posted November 2, 2003 you are as well getting the timing belt changed at the same time are you not????especially if there is no sign of it being replaced recently  If there is no history or sign of the timing belt being replaced then this will need doing regardless of the condition of the waterpump. G60's can be a real b*****d to time up correctly. Even when the belt is replaced in the correct position, it often alters the timing slightly. The G60 timing proceedure is a real pain in the arse. Part of GUS's original question was regarding how difficult the job would be.
Majik 0 Posted November 2, 2003 I'd rather do a timing belt and water pump on a g60 than a timing belt on the fiat 20vT which is an engine out jobby which was stated in that post...corrado vs fiat coupe

vr6storm 0 Posted November 2, 2003 Part of GUS's original question was regarding how difficult the job would be. well not exactly  he did ask how "big a job" it was........which is also what most people ask garages etc when they are doing work on their motors so you can interpret it as both

stevemac 0 Posted November 2, 2003 well not exactly  he did ask how "big a job" it was........which is also what most people ask garages etc when they are doing work on their motors so you can interpret it as both True, big job & difficult job are relative remarks. One last thing that I would like to add - G60's are much better off at garages which specialise in VW's. Most, even very good, garages are not necessarily aware of the correct G60 timing proceedure. The electronic "corrective timing" controlled by the ECU must be disabled by following a very specific proceedure.
