Yozza 0 Posted July 24, 2007 Morning, Hope this is the right forum. I've found a small hole (2mm ish) in my off side headlight with about 10mm of opaque headlight around it. Would this be an MOT failure? I can get pics up tonight to show in more detail. Any idea how much new/scrapped headlight casings are? Cheers for any help. nocrap 0 Posted July 24, 2007 It will only fail if it interferes with the light beam pattern. Late lenses from VW are about £20, early are a bit less but you may struggle to get early lenses now.
vwdeviant 0 Posted July 24, 2007 Mine's gone through 2 MOTs with a 2mm hole filled with clear Silicon... I think as long as your beam patterns not screwed... however you need to get it sealed/ replaced as any moisture will kill teh silvering on the lights and that WILL be a MOT fail... Yozza 0 Posted July 24, 2007 Cheers, I'll pick up some gel tonight and seal it. MOT is next month, so hopefully it'll get through alright. Ta, Yozza
Supercharged 2 Posted July 24, 2007 If it's a late car I would really advise buying a new lense while you still can!
Yozza 0 Posted July 24, 2007 It's a 1990 (H Reg) 1.8 16V. Are these easy to get? It may be worth getting some now and replacing it before the MOT. Cheers.
Supercharged 2 Posted July 24, 2007 Ah no - they were £8.40 from VW earlier this year but now obselete... keep an eye on eBay
Yozza 0 Posted July 24, 2007 Sorry if there's a post on this already, but what are the differences between the ones on different Corrados? I'll have a trawl through the forums and see if anybody is breaking. Ta.
Yozza 0 Posted July 25, 2007 Oh, one other thing. Even though I've got a 1.8 16V, the bonnet is from a VR6. One of the previous owners replaced it. Does that make a difference to lens/light selection? Cheers.
Supercharged 2 Posted July 25, 2007 Probably not if just the bonnet unless he has changed the wings, slam panel and lights also... There is not much difference between the lights but it's 1cm or so that makes the crucial difference so the lenses are not interchangable... If you give me the numbers off one of the lights I can probably tell you..
Yozza 0 Posted July 25, 2007 Reet, Numbers on the lens are: 001 133 061 04444 01 R8 7R 011 758 Hope at least one of those is useful. There's some condensation in the headlight now, so I'm going to have to seal it pretty sharpish. Cheers.
Supercharged 2 Posted July 25, 2007 Yeah thats early... Part number 536 941 115 if you ever come across one...
Yozza 0 Posted July 25, 2007 Right, cheers. Any ideas of places that might have one? Would VW keep an old stock or are they all gone now? Keep an eye on e-bay and the forums, but the MOT is next month, so if it fails I'm in trouble. Cheers.
Yozza 0 Posted July 25, 2007 Right, Just to let you know, I've managed to find one in Portsmouth at a VW dealer. If you call any dealer they'll do a national search. There's about 5 other dealers in the South East that still have it in stock as it only went obsolete last week (!). Cheers for all the help with this, and I'll be off to Portsmouth at the weekend. Yozza.

DanVW 0 Posted November 15, 2007 If anyone does get another hole in their fog or headlight I have found the best way to seal it without being able to see the "fix" is clear tape :-) worked on my old golf for years, And more recently on the C
