ProdigalSon 1 Posted January 23, 2008 ps: My MOT cost... £40  Hmm, how much would a new VR6 have cost if I hadn't found and replaced your dodgy front caliper bolt, eh? Glad you got it all sorted now, is it back on the driveway? Your mpg can only go up from this point! Yeah, gave it a good blast on the way home - drives really really well... and still got 34mpg! 8) Yes, that's right, officially twice the fuel economy compared to one month ago, and arguably twice the fun to drive.  *happy sigh* I love my C
boost monkey 0 Posted January 23, 2008 Hey! it's not our fault your car only idles when it's underwater! I hear you ordered some more pot to remedy the situation, is that completely legal?

Mr Prodigal wouldn't have a lovely Pearl White G with black leather Recaros if it wasn't for yours truly! Mr Prodigal wouldn't have a perfect G60 boot carpet, if it wasn't for yours truly! CazzaVR 0 Posted January 23, 2008 That would be my previous Deputy Head... I guess you had a little something to do with it too... Glad you decided to sell the G when you did- I was just about to buy his 16v (which was nice, but just not the same ). Talking of the old Aqua, have you got any decent pics of it? I've only got a couple of actual prints- would be nice to have some 'digital' pics. Mini meet in Feb would be grand 8) Fancy helping with wheel bearings/calipers? ;)

ProdigalSon 1 Posted January 23, 2008 I guess you had a little something to do with it too... Stop - you'll make me blush! Talking of the old Aqua, have you got any decent pics of it? I've only got a couple of actual prints- would be nice to have some 'digital' pics. Yes, got some pics that you took I think, after I started having serious withdrawal symptoms! :( *after quick search of PC* Look what I found! stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdfG60engine.jpg[/attachment:215dpjfb] Corrado92.pdfVW Corrado 1.jpg[/attachment:215dpjfb] passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfVW Corrado 2.jpg[/attachment:215dpjfb] climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfVW Corrado 3.jpg[/attachment:215dpjfb] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfCorrado G60 4.JPG[/attachment:215dpjfb] VW Corrado 5.jpg[/attachment:215dpjfb] Mini meet in Feb would be grand 8) Fancy helping with wheel bearings/calipers? ;) Cool, let's sort a date. Wheel bearings? Can do. Calipers? What, again?!  Sure, it's all good
ProdigalSon 1 Posted January 23, 2008 *ahem* by that I mean, I think Prodigal would LOVE to get underneath your car and do wheelbearings. with his hands. and a pair of pliers! Er, Andy, you meant rear hub bearings right? Cos the fronts are a bee-atch! Although not as bad as the Audio Quattro bearings that require a hydraulic press and 10 tons of force to pop them out - yes, that's right, 10 TONS...
CazzaVR 0 Posted January 23, 2008 Ah, thanks! Yep, I took those (my sister was sitting in the garden, but she actually looks like a pixie sitting on the car roof! ). How about a provisional date of 9th or 10th Feb, unless you want to join the Air Balloon meet on the 3rd... Edit: yeh, rear bearings, so we should be OK ;)

ProdigalSon 1 Posted January 24, 2008 hey dude nice work :D any idea who makes the standalone charger oil pump? Hi Lee, thanks, we got there in the end! Had a quick look at the pump and it says 'FSE FACET' on it... I know that it is a constant 5psi universal pump fed from a switched 12V feed (taken off the ignition coil). You will see these used for water, fuel, and oil pumping (but preferably not at the same time! ) Do a search - there are loads of vendors, prices are about £50+ and on the sump what sort of capacity does it have Rough measurement is about 1 litre for the whole system (ie. the sump the 3m of braided hose to and from the pump/charger). can get the fab work done in work and i can do the rest, just need that pump!! flea bays no use on this at the moment sorry for all the q's No worries

ProdigalSon 1 Posted January 25, 2008 Start enjoying the car again now!.... Already there, bro, already there  8) :D PS. I took your advice Daz and didn't get a sports cat, but the replacement 'stock' unit was obviously less restrictive than the original anyway :thumb right: I could see way more daylight through the new cat than the old one :) Hopefully it will last a good long time as it has twice the number of cells than the 'sports' variant. The drive is so much better now, I can't wait to get the respray done so her looks match her feel... Just the small matter of saving the cash!
ProdigalSon 1 Posted January 29, 2008 OK, a quick guided tour of a handle 'repair' - passengers side as it happens, but the driver's side is a mirror image of it... Ironically it's actually harder to replace the 'striker' part from a working handle than it is to repair a broken one  Thanks to boost monkey for an extra set of hands to help pull the old striker out. Original handle: ETKA Corrado.pdfHandle_01_5778.jpg[/attachment:2fvfgasl] Pivot pin screw inserted: stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdfHandle_02_5779.jpg[/attachment:2fvfgasl] Screwdriver lifting retainer spring: Corrado92.pdfHandle_03_5780.jpg[/attachment:2fvfgasl] Molegrips pulling pivot pin (PlusGas was used!): passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfHandle_04_5782.jpg[/attachment:2fvfgasl] Pivot pin out (3rd time lucky!): climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfHandle_05_5784.jpg[/attachment:2fvfgasl] (Didn't have a free hand to take a pic of the old striker as it came out - the screwdriver was interfering with it, but that was necessary to keep the spring out of the way) New steel striker installed, pivot pin refitted, and moving parts lubed with LM grease: 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfHandle_06_5785.jpg[/attachment:2fvfgasl] How the driver's side handle striker failed!: Handle_11_5800.jpg[/attachment:2fvfgasl] So now I have peace of mind whenever I open the doors 8) *bliss* :sunny:
