Removing Bird Pooh - Be careful!

Recommended Posts

Thought I'd get this in before someone else does what I did.

Just got back to car and found large bird sh#t down drivers side bodywork.

DO NOT DO WHAT I DID!!!! Simply gobbed into an old cleaning rag and started rubbing vigoursly.

As the pooh had dried, i ended up leaving little scratch marks everywhere :(

Has anyone esle done this and got the marks back out??

Bird poo is quite abrasive and shouldnt be rubbed, best bet is use hot water to 'soften' it up and then ever so gently wipe it away with a wet cloth..

The scratches should lift out with the use of a decent polish, megs scratch x or something along those lines.....

phew..cheers Goldie.

It's weird, I used the correct procedure this morning when cleaning out an old cereal bowl that had Alpen in it for 2 days.

Simply soaked it a bit, left it, and hey pesto.

Just wish i'd applied the same logic with my pride and joy!!

Thanks again

Yes - I am sure wild birds take in a fair bit of grit when feeding. Worms, for example, contain quite a bit of earth.

I made same mistake on my daughter's Mk4 black golf - just trying to be helpful like! That modern black paint finish is awful, I thought. Seems designed to show up every little scuff and scratch.

Fatal mistake! Yeah.. best thing to do is soak it with lots of warm water and it should eventually break up and be easy to wipe off. Some good polish should be able to take out the damage.

Yes I did exactly that to the wing of my Golf. Gutted.

Also, the bonnet of my Golf is "burnt" by the acid from bird poo left in the sun, so don't let it bake on!
