Alternative central locking?

my central locking has gone wrong, only locks doesnt open!!??

 

Im getting it looked at today, but if it cant be fixed or works out to be expensiveto get reapired is there something else i can put on??

any else tried solenoids or an aftermarket central locking kit??

It sounds like the pipe that is used to feed the actuators with air pressure/vacuum has split somewhere. It's probably just a case of trying to find the leak in the pipework and sealing it back up. 8)

 

Check by all door hinges (these are common fracture points), by the pump (in the boot), and under the passenger side of the dashboard (there's a connector there that sometimes leaks!)

VAG's vacuum C/L system is generally very reliable.

 

When the pump motor wears it, starts getting lazy and slow to respond. I usually replace them with one from an 80s Audi 100. They slightly bigger, more powerful and quieter. Same connections etc, so it's plug-and-pray.

 

The only other alternative is electric solenoids but do you really want your C sounding like a Cavalier when you lock it? Plus you're gonna have to strip both doors, the tailgate and the petrol flap to fit them all.......Cheaper and easier to replace the pump.

My golf is starting to get slow and noisy, its only an N-reg, but I might try fitting one of those bigger audi units..cheers.

ive just got it back from the auto electrician, he says its the sensor in the drivers door. when i take the central locking pump out for a bit then put it back in, it works for a couple of days?? if the sensor was gone would it do this?

It's not really a sensr, more a swtich. if it's anything like the old mk2 system, the tracks in the switch are prone to corrosion.

About £100 from the dealer. Just pop to a breakers and get an Audi 100 one is stronger and quieter.

 

I have an excellent local breakers that specialise in VW/Audi. They literally have acres of Golfs, Passats, Audis etc. Only 3 corrados at the moment though :cry:

 

I am willing to aquire any parts and forward on if required.

Do you mean the grey cloth? In which case unfortunately not but there is a grey cloth interior for sale on PVW at the moment!

I took my drivers door solenoid apart today (I had to virtually destroy it, as they are not serviceable). The switch shouldn't be a problem for anyone, but I found the four terminals leading to it were badly corroded. To dismantle it you need to withdraw the plunger and cut the bridgeing terminals from the solenoid to the switch (these can be soldered back in place afterwards). A bid of a clean, and lots of araldite to build the housing back up after I cut it in half with a bandsaw :shock: and it's working fine now. I dread to think what a replacement costs. By the way, if you try to get a secondhand one, make sure it comes from the same era vehicle you are putting it in. I have a 91 C, and bought a solenoid from a 95 C, and it was different. Couldn't use it :( Hope this helps

If he means the sensor in the drivers door there is a small micro switch in the door handle which is actuted by a lug on the door barrel when you turn the key. These small swithes are prone to sticking and the wires coming from them sometimes break. These go into the door lock itself. Sometimes it is just a matter of taking the handle apart and adjusting the switch. I think you can buy the switches at Maplins or RS Components if it is shagged. I hope this helps.
