Cat 1 fitted - how much?

Recommended Posts

Need a new system as mine is playing up. I've been quoted £320 + VAT to remove the current one and install a Meta total closure Cat 1, is this a good price?

Also are Meta systems any good, haven't heard of them before.

That seems to on the slightly expensive side.

Bill Aitken (A1 VR6) had the details of a great alarm fitter in the south who was a little more reasonably priced than that, and who was an ex-Corrado owner so knew them inside out.. might be worth hunting for his posts in the suppliers forum and the Ice N Secure section?

Cheers for the advice, will try and hunt him down.

Just been quoted £255 for a Toad Ai606, plus extra to wire in the full closure (estimated ~£30). Is this more in line with the norm?

the guys name is Andy Bryant - Trimwizard.co.uk - great service!

£255 sounds good, but then I wouldn't want to underpay for an alarm fitment...

Thats the chap!

He fits Cobra alarms I think.. used to have one on my G60 and it seemed a very good quality item!

Had Laserline in the last couple of cars I've had, without any problems and have various options on how secure you want your car to be with numerous different add on sensors, such as for movement, etc.

Cat 1 cost me £300 all in, with lifetime warranty as long as I own the car, free check up every 12 months by the local specialist. :)

Just stay away from Clifford IMO...

Circa £250 seems to be the right ball park for an alarm including removal of the old one!

Don't know who to recommend in the Bristol area though but if you're up near Guildford at any point Ian Banning have always done a good job on my cars 8)

EDIT: and you don't need any extras to add the full closure as the C already has this - they just need to program it to send the 'lock' command for long enough to close windows and sunroof - 30 secs IIRC

I can't recommend Andy enough.

Only today he fitted a Cobra cat 1 to my VR6. His attention to detail and professionalism are worthy of praise!

He ripped out all the pikey shit that had been put in the car previously and did a really tidy job on the fresh install.

What was really nice.. was that we found some burnt out wiring that he inspected and made safe before going any further with the fit. He then made sure everything was working with me before he explained how the alarm worked and then leaving.

Top quality job and well worth the money.

Cheers for the advice guys. Normally I'd be up for driving over there but just don't have the time at the mo and don't like eaving the car unalarmed so I've gone with a company recommended by someone at work. Will post up my thoughts in the other threads.

Finally got my alarm sorted the other week. Got let down by the chap in Bristol so went to Andy (Trimwazard) and was very impressed, can't recommend the guy enough. Really knows his stuff and helped change the wiring on a couple of things. Definately worth the trip over!

I hate it when people say things like that, it makes me :mad2:

Its all down to the installation and set up, had mine 5 years with no false alarms in the middle of the night, no dodgy mysterious unlocking of itself, nothing.

Fitted right and it will be good for a long time.

Somebody once said to me i hate fitting Cliffords as there is too many wires and they are too complicated to do, well i want it complicated with too many wires to make it harder for a thief to get round it all and this is probably the reason for many unhappy Clifford customers, the instaler just doesnt care enough to install it correctly, bang it in and ship it out, get the next 1 in.

The place i use take a full day to install it and sometimes a little longer, just to make it right and trouble free, ever so slightly more expensive than other places but cheaper than GAP who charge a bomb.

I have to agree with you there Simon. Had a Concept 300 on Badcrumble and have one on the 306. Never an issue has been had. It is indeed the fitting and setting up that makes the difference I'm sure.

I can also recommend Cobra and Autowatch alarms. When I worked for a Car Audio specialist, we never had one come back!

Had clifford on both my Corrado's and the current one has been on for nine years totally reliable without any problems at all. :salute:

was around £300 if i remember right and they still do one very similar priced.

Wiring in the total closure is only 1 wire and no extra bits on the C as it already has total closure (hold your key in the lock position a while when locking the doors and you will see). I guess he has to research and locate the right wire but £30 extra?

Not sure if I understood him right on that, or whether he was having me on. Either way I didn't go with them in the end, booked it in with Trim Wizard and glad I did
