service book

Ive been serviceing my VR6 myself. Have just changed the oil+filter + air filter. Genuine parts from vw.

My question is

Is it worth simply keeping the receipts for the parts to show its been done or is it acceptable to fill in the service book and clip the reciepts in.? May seem a strange question but I cannot justify the price of serviceing just for a stamp but if I do sell want it to be obvious Ive cared for it.

if it was me i would write in the service book mileage and date and service type, and keep the paper work as a proof of purchase of service parts reciepts are always nice to see for anything to do with your car

I wouldn't see any problem with what you are saying, some may do however. So maybe don't write in the book, instead you could write on the receipt the date you changed it and the mileage, then clip it in.

 

Edit - I always keep every receipt, no matter how frivolous. I even have one just for the clips for the fusebox tray!

the way i see it , the service book is for correspondence to mileage and date of services , a well filled in book is better than an empty one the book is no good to anyone empty , if someone buys the car after, the book is no good as they cant back stamp it ,dare i say u cant change history :D

My service book is a little out of date these days because I don't keep it in the car and forget about it whenever it goes for a service. I do keep a huge folder of all receipts/old MOTs/old tax discs if I change anything I write the mileage on the receipt before I file it.

I just keep the receipts and put the mileage and date that I fitted the parts on there. It hadn't actually occured to me to write in the service book, but I don't see any reason why not.

 

If you want to be really anal, I'm sure you could get a "VW Specialist" stamp made up and use that :lol:

 

Edit: Just had a quick search and it looks like there's places that'll make custom rubber stamps up from £5+
