Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm new to this site so probably posting in the wrong section lol! anyway im after a vr6 Corrado and have a few questions that im hoping you might be able to answer?

1) what sort of money will it cost to get a good condition vr6? ive heard about "Townsend Car Sales" anyone had any experience with them? what like?

2) what sort of things should i be on the look out for other than the ordinary stuff?

3) how reliable are they? and what the vr6 engine like!?

hope you can help

Cheers Adam,

Moving to General as this is mainly for pictures and updates on your car, rather than questions about it.

As has been said, the search and knowledge base are your friends.

Very simply:

1) Good condition VR can be had from £3k to £10k (extreme top end of prices). Depends what you define as 'good'. You could get one cheaper than £3k but it's an old car. Expect to have to sort things!

TCS have been discussed at length.

2) Buyers guide in knowledge base.

3) Reliable - fairly. Have niggles that need sorting - extremely common. VR engine - lacks some low end grunt but get it up the revs and you can shift. Schrick manfiold is a very good addition.

....and use the classifieds if you want to sell a car ;)

i was looking at a car that TCS were selling and i had the money (dont think he actually know this) i was going to be doing about a 300 mile journey to him with cash to buy a car that was £4000ish. He informed me that he was busy and couldnt meet me that day, i informed him thats my only day off and i would like to look at it which he pretty much said well nevermind then. my loss kinda thing. so i buggered him off and went and bought one private from a chap near mansfield for a grand less and its needed a wheel bearing and tensioner pulley doing, but its mint and i love it!

best advice is dont buy the first one you see, i know how tempting it is but wait. if there is anything major wrong try and either knock down for the amount roughly it will cost to fix or walk away:P its not worth the hassle of fixing something when you can wait a week and get one thats been done :p

also

Good Luck and you will love the noise of the VR6, its unreal i drove all the way home with no stereo on just accelerating and braking to listen to it lol

do what i did, read as much as you can, print off the checklist on Wiki and take it with you, check it cold check it warm and check it again, drive it, should feel smooth no juddering, smooth steering just look out for bodywork, rear arches and look try make sure that the wings are in line, (not been bent and straightenend) but end of the day, its gonna be 14+ yrs old, cant expect much for that! lol i think id rather go for one with FSH and a few more miles over one with less miles and no history!. post pics with as much info as possible and people on here will help as much as they can. there is a part on the forum where if someone lives close by they will if possible come and view the car with you to check it out!

main thing is

Always Haggle! - its a buyers market and unless its feww you will get something off! :)

yeah i know what you mean! ive got that been reading it over lol, how many miles has yours done?? take it the pulleys and tentioners need doing at 80+ k?? id ideally like one with no rust but see how it goes! was quite keen on one from that tcs on the available soon section but from what ive read they seem dodgy! but i agree full service history all the way!

i dont think he is dodgey, just doenst seem to have the time for anyone, im sure he gets alot of phonecalls which turn out to be crap but end of the day its his business and his job so he should put the effort in. Mine is on 134k and it had chains done at 113k - i would advise you get one with chains done and make sure there is proof they have been done, they are expensive otherwise. mine has just needed a rear wheel bearing and the alternator tensioner pulley (serpentine belt tensioner) changing, the tensioner cost me about £60 inc vat and the belt was about £8 inc vat. that was a SKF pulley and QH belt :) shouldnt cost more than £30-£50 to have it changed but by hell did it make a difference on the steering and the engine noise on mine! (because it aint rattling the engine sounds much better) :D

put it this way, when you boot it, you smile, end of :). getting chains done is quite expensive if you pay a garage to do it. i rekon it would be a 5 spanner haynes job :p lol, i can do a bit on the car but i wouldnt attempt to do the chains on my own, pretty much full engine out job. im sure ive read somewhere that you change the clutch while its out just so its done :p lol
