Arrhh! Mayonaise under filler cap.

Help,

Checked oil in my vr6 the other day to find mayo under the filler cap (emulsified oil). Topped it up and wiped it off.

Got to work today and there was more there so i just left it.

When i got back it wasn't there anymore.

I know this could be the head gasket but it still goes like a train.

Is there anything else it could be or am i just not able to admit the truth.

 

Anyone have any idea of the cost of a head gasket fitted.

 

Not looking forward to rolling road day so much now!

All these things seem to happen at once.

Cool oil does this. If it's not completely up to temp then it's often gonna look that way.

You say it goes away? Then it's almost certainly not a problem!!

I would not concern yourself over it as the engine warms up the dampness in the engine will condense on the underside of the rockercover mixing with the oil , to get rid of it take off the manifold and rocker cover clean out the cover and put it back on and then the next 40k + you can do it again when it builds up :D

it will be worse at this time of year with the damp air,next time you get the oil changed,give it a good thrashing then drop the oil out and this should get rid of it,or do it the harder way i said before.. :D

If you run out of water and over heat then it will more than likely be the head gasket - when the head gasket is bad then you will only make it a few miles down the road at a time!

it should be paul.....mine has done it since i bought it..........i crapped myself the first time i noticed it!!.......but then was told that its just condensation inside the engine......you'll also find if you take it for a good 5/10 mile drive after spotting it on the oil-filler cap(and not wiping it off :wink: )that after the wee 5/10 mile drive the oil filler cap will just have oil on it.......with no or very very little sign of the "mayo" :wink:

I remember you warning me about the exact same thing when I was looking at my vr Roddy.

Yes, I get it as well as its only 2 miles to work and with the colder weather the engine isnt warming up as quick so the mayo appears.
