Jim 2 Posted May 9, 2008 Internet + enthusiasts = pedantics :) Think how I feel - this discussion has deviated off the original subject somewhat :)
Dec 1 Posted May 10, 2008 hmmm it's not really being pedantic in fairness, the aim of the game is to increase Mass Air Flow, which in this case is created by increasing the pressure in the intake, as you suggested. But it's not as simple as purely increasing pressure, as a simple pressure increase is dependent on too may factors before it will actually cause an increase in mass flow at the cylinder. E.g. a large pressure increase before a restriction (such as something like a nozzle) in the intake will cause a velocity increase and a pressure decrease after the restriction, but still have the same mass flow. Dec 1 Posted May 10, 2008 P.S Sorry Jim   Yes, I wished my rado was nippier too especially since I got whooped in a straight drag race off the line (only to 70mph) by some sort of faily standard looking Clio! :mad2:
mattnorgrove 0 Posted May 10, 2008 Jim, you've owned a few C's in your time no? Complete the set and get a VR! Look how much Cazza's just went for! Get in there whilst the going's good and fall in love with the C again! Wouldn't part with mine (Vera :luvlove: ) for the world.
Jim 2 Posted May 10, 2008 Ah VR is in the 'master plan' definately. Its the Corrado i've always wanted to own, yet never have!
Dec 1 Posted May 10, 2008 Me too, I'm seriously considering getting rid of the Mondeo and getting a Vr as a daily drive (as I really don't do that much mileage anymore), and keep the valver for weekends  :cuckoo: I've had 7 rados over the last five years though, and all of them have been valvers!
paul20v 0 Posted May 11, 2008 20vt boost pipes suck themselves closed  definitely not good. i have to ask , i wasnt going to but i have to how do boost pipes suck themselves closed, as the vaccum in the engine is manifold side between the throttle flap and engine. Do a google for 'turbo hose collapse'. Dec, why don't you get a VR for the weekends and keep the 16v for a daily? Having them the other way around would be the biggest anti-climax! Dec 1 Posted May 11, 2008 ahh....well it's not a "standard" valver anymore.
skinnyman9000 0 Posted May 11, 2008 I also suffer from 'slow valver syndrome', not fun. I love my car, but its just toooooooo slow.

A1 VR6 0 Posted May 12, 2008 Jim, it doesn't matter if you get a VR or whatever you'll still get idiots trying to do the same thing at roundabouts. I was in the VR once and a guy in a Ferrari did it to me but I left him in the middle of the road and he then drove like a complete idiot till he got past me, then he stopped in front of me and started gesturing for me to get out of the car. I just drove round him and off and noted the reg no just in case I happened to see it parked up somewhere in future if you know what I mean :D Oh and a worse one at roundabouts is when you want to go straight on from the inside lane and the idiot in the right hand lane gives it large away from the roundabout then cuts across in front of you to turn left! or you're in the right lane turning right and because the left lane is clear the idiot goes round on the outside and then cuts in front of you! To my mind these 2 manouveres are far more dangerous and sadly I see them more and more on the roads.
boost monkey 0 Posted May 12, 2008 The standard of driving has just got worse and worse. I thought it was just rubbish in Oxford, but seems to be the world over
Toad 0 Posted May 12, 2008 I don't like the general Valver abuse in this thread... i love mine to bits, and far prefer it to the VR. Admittedly it's not as quick as modern cars, but it goes round corners well, and makes me smile when I come to drive it. I get decent fuel economy, and there's very little to do to the engine. Just keep putting quality oil in, and do the filter regulary and she's as happy as a piglet in poo. Don't here any stories about crank bolt going or timing chain tensioners breaking up on Valvers do you?
boost monkey 0 Posted May 12, 2008 I think Jim (and I) are lamenting at how ass ours are. Just cos you shine the bejeesus out of yours ever spare moment! I love the valvers anyways, I'm on my third and fourth KR now, I have one in the boot too (joke) and I think they're great little engines :salute:
Adz The Rat 0 Posted May 12, 2008 I got pushed along a dual carriageway this morning by a A4 2.0 TDI whilst in my Y reg Escort Van haha Moved over and it wafted past me easily on all its torque. Kept thinking, wish I was in the VR. But then still reckon it would struggle against alot of modern TDI engines, just so torquey. Having said that, the 57 plate Accord CDTI that wouldnt move over on the M55 on Sunday seemed to run out of steam about 135mph so moved over and the VR roared past hehe *the M55 I refer to is in fact a local private airfield which belongs to a friend, not the local extremely straight motorway :norty: )

It happens all the time! Some people seem to think the rules of the road just don't apply to them especially when it comes to sh!tting on other motorists. Really gets my goat..
