ABS light on when ABS ecu disconnected

as the subject says

 

im in the process of getting my VR6 back on the road after a year and a bit sitting on my drive

i have the abs light on so i have read most of the posts on here for things to check

abs rotors,gaps,sensors etc

but the odd thing was i checked the abs ecu this morning for corrosion and that was fine so whilest the abs ecu was disconnected

i decided to start the car to see if the light would come on and it stayed on with the ecu disconnected !!

 

my question is, is this the norm or would it suggest the abs light is buggered

 

i will be hooking it up to vag com next week to find out more but if there are any suggestions i can look at this weekend it would be nice to hear any i will be cleaning all the abs rotors sensors etc this weekend.

 

please let me know any thoughts would be great

I would say that's correct behaviour .. but I don't remember testing it..

well i have vag com'ed it and all it was , was the front left sensor

so all fixed now
