Robz 0 Posted August 17, 2008 hi all, i get the feeling i may be about to be laughed at, but... i think i broke me car!! lol im getting a really loud banging when i go over even the smallest of pot holes, its really loud lol has anybody had that before at all, all i did was go over a biggish pot hole, but even my mini would have withstood iit (i didn't go over it intentionally, wasn't concentrating on my way home from work late last night). i've emptied the rubbish out of the boot, and its not the spare wheel, it sounds like its coming from the rear nearside?? cant work it out, were having a proper look later with luck. i hope i don't get called out!!! cheers all!! rob. Robz 0 Posted August 19, 2008 hi guys, lol, could makt this a game - your all wrong  i took most of the boot apart and discovered that the nearside shock was sat mostly in the boot, lol, looked like the metal flange bit had slowly become rotten and popped into the boot - woops. so the banging was actually the top of the shock hitting the speaker shelf - lol so am i right in thinking that i need a mk2 golf shock?? same thing as the corrado, cheers guys!!!! rob. dinkus 10 Posted August 19, 2008 Eek! You may not need new shocks, but you'll definitely need new top-mounts and top-plates. You may also need some welding done, depending on what exactly has rusted away, so best to take it to your local VW specialist to see what they say. I would also get them to take a look at the other side of the car as well, because if one has rusted through, the other won't be far behind!

I would also get them to take a look at the other side of the car as well, because if one has rusted through, the other won't be far behind! This happened to me about 6 months ago. Went over a deepish pot hole which destroyed the already rotten top plate. The other side was also rusted to hell. Definately replace both top mounts. Robz 0 Posted August 21, 2008 hey guys - ad a look with one of my mates - andwe've decided its a whole new leg job - new mounts etc... lol, can't believe i broke it after only 3 weeks - im gutted, thanks for te replies peeps - just another one though - how much is a resonable price for a second hand leg - me mates letting me have his cos he's keeping his lowered for now and don't wanna screw him outta money, he's too nice and would prob just give it to me!!! cheers, rob. dinkus 10 Posted August 21, 2008 Second hand suspension doesn't go for much money at all. Especially tired, standard stuff that you'd probably struggle to sell. I'd strongly urge you to swap both sides at the same time though - not just the one. Suspension and brakes should always be done in pairs, otherwise it could end up handling rather dangerously if one side is more worn than the other. Toad 0 Posted August 21, 2008 You'd be looking at ~£100 for all the bits needed through GSF etc.
Critical_Mass 10 Posted August 21, 2008 Got a set of FK lowering springs and shockers, fitted for about 6 months -£100 + p&p. Is it a VR you own?
Robz 0 Posted August 22, 2008 hey guys, thanks for the replies - mines a 1800 valver - and thanks critical mass, but i'm not massivly keen on lowered suspension after my mini - the roads where i am really dont like cars with lowered suspension, and i dont have a 100 quid at the mo - i went and bought those borbet c's off raddotom, lol. just to confirm, they are the same as the mk2 golf ones aren't they??? oh... and dont panic - were doing both sides - daylight permitting, lol. cheers, rob.
