Fantastic piece of auto-journalism

Recommended Posts

I agree with you; Mel Nichols' articles were very well written. I think I'm right that he used to write for CAR magazine in the halcyon days of LJK Setright, Philip Llewelyn and George Bishop. Today we have Clarkson - amusing at times, boorish quite often - but not of the same quality. In the previous era, I would say that Denis Jenkinson was the consummate master; not only was he an enthralling jounalist, but also technically supreme.

Best wishes

I have loads of copies of Car from the early 80's with some fantastic stories, Supercar Classics was also absolutely top drawer.

One of my favourite stories (which I have framed and hung on a wall) is from when they accompanied the owner of Stratton in Wilmslow to Maranello to collect his Ferrari 288GTO and drive it back to the UK

Motoring journalism isn't what it used to be

Super read - thanks for sharing. Excellently puts into words those great 'car convoy' moments you get with a bunch of friends and quiet roads. Not to mention a nice glimpse back in time at a totally different time on the roads (like when they were empty and the French police encouraged you to do 165MPH+) :)
