The mileage on the shell is now in the region of 190k, I took it off the road in October and its been pampered in my garage since then so hasn't been subjected to the ravages of another winter :)

 

Everything is indeed running as it should. I went to major effort to ensure things were all good as I planned on keeping the car indefinitely, but if I'm honest I did suspect that I would feel like this after a year or so, i.e wanting something else to do! I tend to do this - build cars, spend a fortune and then sell them about a year later :-) As I said, a lot of the pleasure for me is in the building.

 

Insurance wise - I'm with Brentacre and the insurance was almost the same as my previous daily - a 1.9TDi Ibiza. They quoted on the engine and then added a bit more on because of the Corrado. It's actually cheaper to insure than it was when it was an 8V - unbelievable but it's true. Obviously the normal companies probably wouldn't touch it because it's modified, but any specialist company will sort it for you.

 

On the motorway it averages about 55-60mpg at 70mph so makes an ideal commuter. I put quite a lot of effort into the ABS upgrade and comfort aspects of the car (cruise, bluetooth handsfree stereo with iPod control etc, TT wipers, built-in uprated headlamp loom etc) so it's a pretty safe motorway cruiser.

 

I should also mention that I'm going to put 12 months MOT on it, fit 312mm brakes and Jay's uprated poly engine mounts too. It'll also have 6 months tax so will be ready to go with literally no expenditure for 6 months (other than regular oil changes if you're using it a lot, I do changes every 2500 miles).

 

Oh, forgot to mention, it's properly registered as an 1896cc Diesel car on the logbook so no issues should you need to produce/make an insurance claim etc. Tax is unaffected because its pre-2001 so is done on engine size.

I'm going to give a set of powdercoated 288mm carriers with the car when it goes. Reason I'm changing them is because I went a bit cheap on the front discs when I did the build and managed to warp them when coming rather quickly down a steep hill near to where I live - I felt them go and was pretty gutted! I've got a set of genuine 312 discs to go on so thought I may as well upgrade. If someone wants to fit 15's then all they'll need to do is buy a set of mk3 288mm discs and jobs a good'un.

Bittersweet feelings really, I'm going to miss it quite a lot but I *may* just build another one in the near future. We'll see.

Just thought I'd put a quick update to this thread :)

 

The new owner, a chap called Simon from Aylesbury, picked it up last Friday morning. He spotted it on Pistonheads when I put a thread up about it a few weeks ago. At the time he contemplated building something similar himself but then when he noticed on here that it was for sale he decided to buy it instead. A deal was agreed for the car in 'basic' trim - that is, a cloth interior and Audi TT 16" wheels. So I spent a couple of hours removing the leather interior and swapping the RC's for the TT's. (That means the leather interior and BBS RC's are both up for grabs soon). I also fitted the 312mm discs that I had lying around and gave it a good check over.

 

Before he collected it I gave it a quick clean as it'd been in the garage all winter, then took it for one last drive and a few pictures.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

As arranged, Simon arrived at my local train station on Friday morning - half an hour or so of chatting and 'familiarisation' (he'd never really been near a Corrado before) and he set off for Alyesbury. I got a text a couple of hours later to say he'd arrived safely and really liked the car - can't ask for more than that really :-) As is my custom, I said that if he ever came to sell it I'd like first refusal - it's a tradition of mine to buy back cars that I've previously owned ;-)

No regrets at all. I had loads of fun building it last year, bringing it up to scratch mechanically and finding lots of things out in the process. I also had loads of fun using it last summer, going to a few shows and getting lots of unexpected compliments on the build.

 

I think the only thing I could have done is chased more power as that was always the plan, but its ready for it should the new owner decide to modify it further. If not I'll do it when I buy it back ;)

Depends on how much you're willing to pay for them. Just had a PM from another member so here's what I said to him:

 

They're fully refurbed with literally no marks/scuffs/kerbing/damage of any sort. 4 very good 215/40x16 tyres (Hankook Ventus V12 Evo). Fully polished centre cap nuts and covers and completely unmarked BBS chrome centre caps. There's quite a lot of money in them for me and they're fully balanced and ready to fit.

 

As close as you'll ever get to a brand new set to be honest.

 

Size is 7.5 x 16, ET35.

 

I want £650 for them.

Thought I'd start a thread on my Corrado - a 1996 'N' 2.0 8V motor in Sherry Pearl. I got it a month ago in a straight swap deal for my (knackered) Audi A3 1.8 20V. I hated that car and had always wanted a C, looking at quite a few around the country until I found this one just 6 miles from my house :D

 

It's quite highly specced for an 8V, I guess it must be one of the last off the production line being an 8V and also first registered on 01/03/96. Amongst all the normal Corrado stuff its got a full black leather interior with heated front seats and also 15x7" Castellet wheels, mirror polished, which were I believe an optional extra and are listed on the build sticker in the service book and the in the boot.

 

Since buying it I've done a few things to it, mainly a good clean, fitting some headlamp protectors (from Chris aka shawshankkid) and making a list of the things that don't work/need attention. All I've got so far is that the heated switch doesn't illuminate and the heated rear screen switch doesn't light up when its switched on. Apart from that everything works! There's going to be some maintenance needed soon, I want to replace the front suspension bushes and maybe whip the subframe off for a coat of paint. I'm also going to sort the brakes out with new fluid and rebuild the calipers, but for the moment everything works so it's all good.

Bit of a thread resurrection, but I don’t seem to be able to post a classified ad due to my meagre post count – hopefully this is OK though…

 

I have a new toy arriving this month and so sadly I need to move the Corrado TDI on as it will lose its place in the garage. I wanted to offer it here first in the hope that it will find a good owner.

 

I’ve used it as my everyday car since buying it from Tom and it’s been superb, which is a testament to the quality of Toms original conversion. The car is pretty much as I bought it, although it’s recently had a new cambelt, water pump plus a minor suspension refresh (lower arm / top mount / couple of wheel bearings) and full alignment. It also has Audi TT seats, which seem to suit it well. It has an MOT till October 2015. On the downside both front wings will need attention soon.

 

Mileage has just reached 200k

 

As a reminder, the spec of the car is as follows – I’ve probably forgotten something but it’s all in the thread!

Large front mounted intercooler

New mounts

OBD2 conversion

Lupo wiper conversion

Cruise control

Passat ABS

If I had the space I would keep the car and sort the wings myself, but sadly the loss of garage space makes that a non-starter. I’m after £2,500, given the work that’s been done – give me a shout if interested. Here is the car as it currently stands:-
