Dash Lights Anybody Tried These

Recommended Posts

The advert does however seem to gloss over the fact that there is green plastic displacing the existing light in the top of the cluster. So if the existing bulbs were changed to the new ones in the advert and the plastic removed you would end up with hot spot of light.

Anyway anyone tried these?

Cheers

The Storm I bought last year had many changes of a 'blue theme', the clock lights being one of them.

The green strip was removed but not only that the bulbs had blue plastic covers so were probably different than the ones this ad is selling. With the blue covers the light did have a blueish tinge but was not very bright. The dimmer had to be on max to see anything and with only a minute adjustment the dash was plunged into darkness.

So, that doesn't really help in answering whether you get light hot spots!

It's an easy enough job to do then put back to standard again (especially if Kip does it for you :luvlove: ) so if you don't like it so it's just the cost / your time to think about. Oh yeah, and there are also bulbs along the bottom so I don't know what colour light they give if not changed (I had blue covers over them all)

The normal bulbs are filament (sp?) bulbs and therefore disperse an even spread of light. The green film helps but mainly just colours the light.

All the LED bulbs I've seen used don't disperse the light very well, even if flattened and sanded. If I was you, just get a 50p sheet of acetate from Maplins and replace the green filters for any colour you like.

you can get some good items from ultraleds. I have converted mine to blue with the mirror switch and heater controls being red. Having said that, there was a lad on here who supplied me some superb 'flat' leds for the clocks which were actually 3 per light hole making 9 in total. Gives a very nice light and from outside it really looks superb. I'll see if i can dig his name out.
