foster 0 Posted December 21, 2008 Its a case of so much to think about with no real right answer i guess. Have always wanted a corrado since I was a kid, now I've owned two and if this hadnt happened I'd not be considering losing the one I have. This is a choice made with my head not my heart. Will be putting a breaking advert in the for sale section soon. Sure I'll have another rado one day.

waynos 0 Posted December 21, 2008 u sure u wanna split it? theres an engine in the parts section for 450? would be a shame to see another corrado being broken down
oldskoolkool 0 Posted December 21, 2008 you cant break it its too dam good looking to break as waynos said ther's one it the for sale section would not take someone a weekend whos slightly mechanically minded to do a straight engine swap and you would keeping the c's alive, and also any one would look like a pe**s in a TT!!!! (sorry for the offensive language) lol but its your wallet unfortunatly..... viewtopic.php?f=13&t=75216
Furkz 0 Posted December 21, 2008 car looks soo good on the bbs
corozin 0 Posted December 22, 2008 The thing about the TT is that whilst it may seem like a great idea, it's reaching the kind of mileage where stuff is going to start falling off and breaking as various componants reach the limits of thier design lives over the next couple of years. Obviously the Corrado is well past that point now but it does have advantages in that at least it's possible to do a lot of work on the car yourself. An Audi TT is quite a different proposition to the DIY'er and far more jobs require diagnostic equipment, and specialist tools to carry out. If I were you I would ring around for more opinions on the cost of doing the 1.8T conversion. I really don't believe that the costs of that vs buying a TT are comparable, although I appreciate you would get something for your Corrado shell to offset some of the cost. Obviously everyone has thier own circumstances to cope with, but I would say it's worth a few extra calls to places like The Phirm or Jabbasport etc to check the costs out. Finally let's face it TT's are owned by girls and puddle-jumpers. They're looking so 1990's already IMHO. If you really do want a more contemporary & powerful 4WD car then look at an Audi S3 or S4. If you really just want to go quick a secondhand Evo6 is a much better choice than a TT and doesn't come with the effeminate image issue. foster 0 Posted December 22, 2008 Yeah im gonna finally jump in and say that all this TT bashing just wants to make me prove the haters wrong. Both the TT and the Corrado have thier good points and bad points. I'm looking for a daily driver and cant justify using the Rado as one. If you wanna call TT drivers fags then fine, I've loved owning a corrado, I wanted one since I was a kid and since having two I've enjoyed every minute of them. If I wanna drive a pink TT around now its up to me. Don't mean im gonna start loving men. I get the impression that some people buy a corrado just so they can join an exclusive club of rado owners, as if its some duty to car enthusiasts. One day I hope I'll have enough cash to maintain a corrado properly, until then I'll be driving my poofs car. Maybe I drank too much tonight! Good night. :)
dukest 0 Posted December 23, 2008 no, good on you mate.. in my view most people dont seem to realise that until the recent scirocco, the only concievable vag successor to the corrado has been the tt - its a small, golf-platform based, affordable coupe.. more curvy than sporty looking agreed but still a great car as popularity shows. joby 0 Posted December 23, 2008 The poor old TT has always had a bashing, Probably something to do with its popularity, I owned a nice (225) S3 for 12 months and never really found it that exciting to drive even with all its 4 wheel drive and every electrical trickery you could think of and its imence power compared to my lowly 1.8 16 valve corrado! The corrado still excited me more to drive, Thats why it took pride of place in my garage and the Audi sat outside..
dukest 0 Posted December 23, 2008 aaaaannnnyway, how much ;)
coullstar 0 Posted December 24, 2008 I totally agree with what your doing, sometimes you do have to move on. I kind of had the same decision about 6 months ago but the fact I have a daily Golf Tdi helped a lot to keep the Corrado. TT's are ok, they were/are popular but I get a feeling it was more to do with their image than thier driving dynamics. In fact a lot of journalists didnt rate the handling etc that high, too boring IIRC. Saying that they are great inside but if it was my choice I would be looking at an S3. Just as "boring" to drive standard, more pratcical and only need a few tweeks for a great daily. I loved my S3.

aki 0 Posted December 25, 2008 hi how can you even consider breaking a car without finding out for sure what the dodgy noises are? might just need shells for heavens sake! take the sump off and find out! dont write the poor thing off untill you know for sure that its fubar! also im pretty sure that its goin to be cheaper to rebuild a g60 bottom end than install a 20v or buy a tt! and frankly im yet to drive another car that drives like a corrado yes for sure they creak abit but when your leaning on the rear bushes and feeling the rear wheels steering nothing comes close! steering feel!? whats that in a mk4 golf audi tt audi s3 etc? just my 2p! andy
__Andy__ 0 Posted December 25, 2008 of course its up to you but i wouldnt break it, if youve got the money to buy a tt and thats wot u want then do it. like aki said though, at least find out what exactly is wrong with it first before condeming it. gd luck, ill be keeping a close eye on this... foster 0 Posted December 30, 2008 Well I'm keeping it. But I'm dumping the G60, Can anybody recommend any garages to carry out a 1.8t conversion. I couldnt even imagine doing it myself.

foster 0 Posted December 30, 2008 Yeah true I've been meaning to sort that out for ages. Im in dorset, but am happy to travel (even if the cars not!)
alackofspeed2 0 Posted December 30, 2008 Where in Dorset are you? There are bods in Dorset with 1.8t Corrados and Mk2 Golfs...... The conversion isn't difficult.... as long you've got half a brain, a bit of a patience, and don't mind digging in. As for cost... are there any already converted Mk2s or similar for sale? A friend recently bought a Mk2 which someone had converted to run a 1.8t, cherry-picked the good bits from the golf, and swapped the engine into his (much tidier) Mk2.... The donor mk2 set him back a fairly low sum, which was further offset by selling anything of worth (leather, alloys....) from the donor.
