Valerian 0 Posted December 30, 2008 I need to do something about my front seats. By the end of a weeks use i always end up with the carpet covered in foam droppings :gag: . By this i mean that the foam in the front seats has degraded that bad that it's actually turning to dust. Has anyone here had their seats re-foamed and how much did it cost you? I know with a little patience i could probably do it myself a lot cheaper but i never seem to get much spare time lately.
fla 9 Posted December 31, 2008 The foam is probably just from teh bolsters, either the seat base or the seat back. There is a guide in teh Wiki for doing the seat base, but the back is s little trickier. I did mine but didnt ntake any pics unfortunately. Essentially, once the seat is out, remove all teh seat furniture, (head rest, clips, handle etc) and then looking at te base of teh seat back, carefully unroll the metal clips holding the cover on. Pull out the long wire along the base and then move to the front. Remove the clips from teh base of the fabric and then carefully lift the cover from teh base working upwards. Take your time here as you will see other clips that need to be removed. Also, teh heated element is also within the fabric so take a bit of care there. Once the bolster has been exposed, either replace it or rebuild it. Rebilud is fairly straightforward. You need some thin layers of foan (about 2-3mm thick) which can be layered over the damaged bolster. Stick down with impact glue or any spray adhesive. Do a few layers, cover with a layer of duck tape and then a few more of teh foam. Check the surface is smooth once you've finished otherwise you'll end up with a lumpy finish. I've also lined the inside of the leather with another layer of leather so there is hopefully minimal chance of this wearing through for the next 10 years, LOL. __Andy__ 0 Posted December 31, 2008 it really isnt too hard to replace the bolsters, a little fiddly but well worth the effort. the guide on the wiki is very comprehensive, dont think it took too long to do mine. just be carefull not to tear the fabric. give it a try yourself, i really wouldnt pay someone to do it as i could imagine it being expensive. new bolsters are around £30 from the stealers... Rustynuts 0 Posted January 3, 2009 You could always drop a later spec interior into the old girl. My neighbour picked up a mint VR6 interior off ebay for £65 and condition is spot on.
