phil_arb 0 Posted December 19, 2003 Hi all, I have a problem with my 2L 16V. After coming back from my hols, I tried to start the car and it turns over but does not fire. There seems to be no output from the coil although there is a supply. I purchased a new coil but unfortunately it has not solved the problem, so next thing i looked for was some kind of ignition module / amplfier. On the parts CD rom is shows this module mounted next to the ECU but there is not one there on my car. There is however, an electrical module mounted on the same bracket as the ignition coil which looks like some sort of transformer. I have taken the whole assembly to VW (coil & bracket & elec. module) and they are saying that the coil is standard but the module is NOT a VW part? Could someone else with a 2L 16V confirm that the do not have 2 wires leaving their ignition module and going to an ele. module mounted 20cm away? If, as they say it is not a VW part and my igniton module should be by the ECU, and ideas as to why a previous owner would have changed the set-up or ideas to what I can do now? The module in question has no markings or part number on it at all and is rivetted to the bracket and the bracket is spot welded to the ignition coil bracket. There seems to be no output from the coil although there is a supply A faulty HAL sender (in the distributer) can give this symtom, although the bit you describe does sound kindda suspect. there is no such part on the 1.8 AFAIR. Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 19, 2003 Is the coil receiving low tension signals from the ignition amplifier (that mysterious unmarked box)? The ignition amp, where ever it originated from, obviously worked before you went on holiday, so try some initial circuit checks and if the coil is not getting a signal, it'll be that box!
