Original radio fitment in 92 Vr6???

Recommended Posts

My radio in the Vr6 has died, will probably replace with the same unit a VW beta radio cassette. Its not the original fitment I think it came later, around '96. Just wondered if anybody knows what would have been fitted from the factory in 1992

Thanks Leonard,

Sadly I am being drawn into the concours addicts group, so would like to keep it as the factory intended, just not sure what was about then, I would have thought there would be a couple of choices in 92, I'm sure Sony would be one of them. If thats a definate contender would you be able to post a picture or a model no. please??

Thanks Mawrick,

I'm more confused now though, I thought the gamma came after the beta. The American market was supplied with extras that we Europeans didnt get but if I could find a genuine fitment radio/cd player that would be a bonus :D

If I'm not mistaken they do pop up from time to time at the german ebay....:)

And I think some of the casett players comes with a 6-disk cd player, as it have control for it...:)

I guess you can also try to check with the guys in here if they have any info:

IIRC the hi-fi's were dealer fit,so dependant on what the dealers had, from memory it was SONY(with VW branding) and BLAUPUNKT that were used

This one is apparently taken from a old U.K Brochure:

This from a German Brochure:

Atleast for me the U.K one seem to be fitted with a blaupunkt.

Also found some from the Canadian brochuere, seem to be using the heidelberg there...:

Any way to get this forum to accept larger then 800 pixel wide pics (or enable "auto scaling"), nice to have when linking to pics already on the net...;)

I have a Sony XR-C450RDS head unit removed from my 94 Corrado VR6 last year. My parent brought a 94 Golf Rag Top brand new from the dealers and that had the same head unit as the one I removed, which also has a 10 disc changer in the boot. I still have the head unit if you want it. £15 plus postage, you can PM me if you want.

My 92 VR6 came with a Sony radio cd. I wanted a remote cd changer so the dealer swapped it for a Blaupunkt Canberra. It was one of the nightmare ones where the whole thing fitted into a cage and when you left the car you took the whole thing with you.

Thanks for all the replies and offers guys, much appreciated, but I have major engine/rebuild probs at the moment which are taking priority. I will get back to this as soon as I'm sorted
