I would want to disconnect some of the powersteering lines to get the radiator support beam off the car, is it any problems emptying the powersteering system, and leave it empty?, or should it be clamped off?.....ie does the pump get rusty etc if it's left empty?.

No, will be fine and worth changing every 5 or so years anyway, just make sire you get a litre of fluid from VW to fill it back up again.

Errr no I wouldn't leave it empty. You'll find the steering is unbelievably heavy and the components will corrode as you suggested.

Temporarily it's not a problem, but make sure it's only temporary.

yea, but will most likely be off for some weeks, as I have to send things away for powdercoating etc....:)
