_leon_ 0 Posted May 10, 2009 I've heard some lacquer's eat into the savage tinting spray - what do people recommend to use to avoid this? Also is 800 grit the correct wet and dry paper to remove the labelling on the rear lights before spraying? thanks
A1 VR6 0 Posted May 10, 2009 I don't use laquer Leon, if you put enough coats on you won't need it - I used about 6. 800 will be ok, I used it to do this a couple of weeks ago, just make sure you use plenty of soapy water and probably worth going over the whole light with 1500 or 2000 afterwards to give a good key and remove any swirls or marks caused by the 800 :)
_leon_ 0 Posted May 10, 2009 Excellent stuff cheers :) Do you get a shiny finish on the lights without lacquer? Had read some had resulted in a matt finish. A polish and wax may get around this? I should have also asked what to avoid when cleaning/using other products in the car?

You can get a nice shine just using a mildly abrasive polishing compound and to keep it don't use an abrasive polish afterwards and they'll stay looking good. I've only just resprayed mine after about 5 years as I thought the yellow was beginning to overtake the red, so that'll give you an idea. Tip for you, Halfords thinnest pinstripe tape is perfect for masking off the black middle sections :)

Cheers for the tip :) I need to get some for the indicator sections too. Did you just do the top half of the lights? Thanks for the help!
