Danny B 0 Posted May 11, 2009 Hi guys, Was just wondering what everyone else is paying in car insurance on their C's. I know car insurance is like black magic and taxation - no rhyme nor reason :cuckoo: ......but still intrigued to compare. I live in London, 27 yrs young, have clean licence and 5 yrs NCB.....I just got quote £529 from Chris Knott. Thing that bugs me is that I've been paying between £500-£600 for the last three years, and never seems to go down. Any thoughts, comparisons or suggestions ? thanks Danny
Jim 2 Posted May 11, 2009 Moved to the Insurance forum, even though its a general discussion rather than a suppliers discussion as such. You're totally right mate and I've always found the same thing. Insurance in this country is a pain in the backside and as you say, you feel like burning incense and chanting before you make the call to an insurer as the prices vary so wildly between companies - you simply don't know what to expect. I'm 28, have 8 years no claims, have never had any points or accidents, live in a pretty decent area and garage the car - yet I was still getting quotes around £600 this time. What more do you have to do, to prove that you're not likely to be making a claim any time soon?! What enrages me the most is that you pay the same insurance on a VW Corrado, as you would on a powerful Mercedes Benz with a 3-4 litre engine, worth like £30,000 - where the hell is the justification for that?! I'm fortunate that I've been able to move the Corrado onto a limited mileage, classic policy - £200 a year which includes (european) breakdown as well as various other perks! But I can only drive it for 4,000 miles a year and can't use it to commute to work :(
Danny B 0 Posted May 11, 2009 Jim what company is that with.....I do less than 5k a year and would like to get a classic policy. I have a moped to use for work and use the C very sparingly. I tried with one company and they said I needed to have a policy on another car to prove it was a second car....apparently a policy on a moped isnt enough :censored:
vr6-phil 0 Posted May 11, 2009 I am with esure and 'only' pay £300 for me and my wife on the VR, with I think, 12000 miles per year. Not as nice as the £150 that was for my C2, but a sacrifice I was willing to make!
The_Dude 0 Posted May 11, 2009 Err, near enough a grand. :( But that's because I lost 5 years ncb when some git drove up the back of my valver and then drove off. And because I'm pushing 300 horses.

Jim 2 Posted May 11, 2009 I wouldn't broadcast that. You can get seriously done for cheating on insurance! Insurers read this forum in fact.. Anyway - the folks I insured with are called Lynbrook Insurance. Give em a call on 0845 130 4662. Basically you can't apply any no claims bonus nor do you earn it. But my £200 includes non-competitive rally cover (nurburgring..?! must clarify that!!), european breakdown, cover in europe, and a few other perks. Downsides are if the car is at the home location, it must be garaged between 10pm and 6am I think... not sure if they do a version of the policy without needing a garage but certainly worth speaking to them all the same! :)
dukest 0 Posted May 11, 2009 yeah Danny, before I modded mine it was around £430 with Adrian Flux - that was when i was 31, under 5k a year, 10 years NCB (no difference after 5 i dont think) and with 3 points. £300 is very good though! Cheers John

I will give Lynbrook a call thanks. It seems after ringing around the garage thing is the most important aspect.....basically your not covered if it gets stolen from home address and is not in the garage. I remember those days.....keep the faith mate, once you pass 25 insurance does drop although not as much as we would all like as this thread demonstrates :bad-words:
CorradoVR6-Turbo 0 Posted May 11, 2009 Mine is through Brentacre and im 31, 0 points, fully comp, UK and European breakdown, all mods declared,350hp limit, all parts replaced like for like basis...basicly the full works and 3000 mile year policy. £760. markrtw 0 Posted May 11, 2009 I'm 34, clean licence since 17, never made a claim, park in the street, wife on the policy too, 12,000 miles a year, either a £150 or £250 excess (I forget), all mods disclosed, £240 fully comp. Admiral Multi car with the wife's Golf GTI costing about £200 a year on it. I found it dropped with these events: getting to 30, being a home owner and getting married and have been told that having kids makes it cheaper too. It's to do with demographic markers in life that show you in the safer groups who are (statistically on average) more responsible and take less risks. The mother in law's insurance went way up when she divorced, as obviously she had become reckless and a menace to society overnight. You know what these retired single women are like in their 1.6 Civics!

jaded2882 0 Posted May 14, 2009 Has anyone had a hard time declaring mods? I phoned prudential and wheels were simple enough, then the conversation went something like this: Me: I have a smaller pulley on the supercharger. Insurance man: So... I'll tick supercharger added... Me: No, it already has one, I've changed a component of it. Insurance man: OK... There's no box for that.... Me: Look can I just give you a list of stuff changed and an estimated BHP at the end of it? Insurance man: No we have to have power change for each mod... Have you changed anything else? Me: (Gave a long list of changes, must have sounded like french to him...) Insurance man: OK... I'm just going to speak to the technical staff... A few mins later Insurance man: They don't understand it either, lets just do what you suggested. They have still missed a load of stuff off- the twin inlet is down as 'air vent- bodykit'??? and everything else has gone under 'Remapped ECU'. They didn't even understand a big intercooler... Once you start messing around with you car, forget about the main insurers, most only allow 2 mods or don't understand what the heck you're on about. Go to one of the specialists in the insurance section. They usually go on bhp with unlimited mods, like you want to.
