corradostorm 0 Posted January 1, 2004 Do anyone happen to know how difficult these are to change? I guess the roof lining needs to be removed to get access. Should I just bite the bullet and get VW to replace it in April's service on the basis of 'you damage it, you pay for it'. It's on a Classic Green Storm so any dent in the roof lining is going to show badly. Thanks.
Majik 0 Posted January 1, 2004 not hard to replace at all 1. open boot 2. take off trim which at rear furthest part of the headlining 3. pull down the headlining a little and you can see the aerial, undo connector and the nut IIRC its a 19mm and you will need a spanner. 4. Refitting is reverse of removal...job done. Take care when pulling of trim as yanking it may damage trim clips.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 2, 2004 If the rubber boot is perished and cracked, that unfortunately means a new aerial as the rubber bit isn't sold seperately. K
corradostorm 0 Posted January 2, 2004 Thanks chaps :D Any idea of the cost? p.s. Kevin are you a member of VWCCGB or anything similar in Ipswich? I'm not far away and nothing Corrado related on at the moment in Colchester.
Sy_VW 0 Posted January 2, 2004 I looked a while back at getting a whole new bee-sting aerial. I got a quote not from VAG for about £30, so I guess VAG will be all of that!
Furkz 0 Posted January 2, 2004 try halford.....tenner
corradostorm 0 Posted January 2, 2004 What's the difference between Halfords and VAG (other than the price!)
Furkz 0 Posted January 3, 2004 dunno ask the pro's but peronally i would rather just pay a tenner its only an aerial there pretty good looking and for abt 15 quid u can get a size adjustable one that goes from really small to long u change the rods to suit or match ur manhood ;-)

I have VAG-COM if you want a free scan? RE: the aerial, the Halfords ones are for Golfs. The Corrado ones are steeper raked to stop the tailgate hitting the antenna. Go for VAG anyway, better quality and the wiring for the Golf and Corrado aerials is different anyway. K
Henny 0 Posted January 3, 2004 Halfords £10 = non amplified = REALLY rubbish reception  VAG £30 = amplified = reasonable reception... Euro car parts £16.23 = VAG £30  8)

corradostorm 0 Posted January 4, 2004 Thanks. I'll try change it myself. I'm going for a VAG part as I want the keep the Storm original but I'll try Euro Car Parts of GPC before the local main 'stealer'.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 5, 2004 hehe when i read this post i thought u was gonna say Halfords £10 = non amplified = REALLY rubbish reception VAG £30 = amplified = rubbish reception LOL The Corrado spec bee-sting is a luxury next to the old Golf 16V ones! All my 16V aerial could pluck out of the air was bird sh#t, but the Corrado picks up all the stations I need. K
