Changing gear knob+gator

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm changing the gear knob and gator this weekend, I know from a previous post that the OEM gear Knob "should" just twist off.

However, I wasn't sure about removing the old leather gator, someone mentioned pushing something forward and lifting it up to remove screws. Anyway, below is a photo with an arrow, is the arrow pointing to the correct place to push up?

Cant see the pic at work unforunately.

Once you've unscrewed the gear knob. Pull up the plastic square the gaitor is attached to (one with the Karmann badge on). The gaitor along with plastic trim can be lift off. Turn the plastic trim over and you'll see the screw the gaitor is fastened to the trim by.

You actually need to pull up your arrowed part, and then pull the whole gaitor and surround up over the gear knob. You will then see the clip holding the gear knob on which just pulls off if you pull it apart where the split is.

You will see what i mean once you get it in sight.

Neil.

if your lucky enough to have an illuminated gear knob, prise the arrowed part up as described by my learned

colleagues, disconnect wires, and THEN unscrew your gearnob !
