Ap racing / 304x28 disc - problems

Recommended Posts

just a quickie:

im currently fitting my new brakes to my VR6. iv brought ap racing 4 pot calipers with 304x28 discs. they told me they fitted fine.

the prob is the discs are touching the ball joints. im not sure why?iv been in touch with the suppliers but now i got to wait for a response.

is anyone else running the same set up? if so am i missing something

thanks

Yes you have to shave some material from the ball joint to allow clearance. Kev (cheesewire/pianowire/not sure what variant of wire he's now using!) had to do the same - he'll probably follow up shortly. Bottom line - what youve described is correct

Yeah common thing on VWs with AP racing kits.

It tells you in the instruction manual as a side note - * some vehicles may need clearancing of the lower track control arm joint.

In other words, file the f'ck out of it until the disc no longer rubs on it :D

You can take a lot of meat out of the ball joint casing, don't be shy. Did mine nearly 4 years ago and the BJs are still fine. It doesn't weaken them.
