where would i get a full set of locks?

any ideas, i havent tried anywhere yet, but someone must have done it before

What do you mean? Just the key barrel? Handle's with barrels in?

 

You can either insert your old barrels into new/second hand handles or adjust a different handle to suit your key.

i am getting new handles anyway, but i want the locks to be all on the same key.

I know gsf do locks for the golf/jetta, but the barrels wont fit the c

 

How do you change the door and boot locks?

is it a lock specialist job?

Buy new handles and transfer your existing lock barrels into the new handles.

 

Dead easy and you could do both sides yourself, inside an hour if it's your first time.

if you mean you got a seperate key for ignition,door locks and boot then you can get new locks from vw i dont think they are to expensive

Like VR6 (Tom) said, It's possible to dismantle your existing lock tumblers & rebuild them to match your key. If your unsure how to do it, your local VW specialist or main dealer will do it for you.

 

If you're getting new handles anyway, the place that your buying them from should be able to make them fit your existing key.

As a rough idea, I replaced all the locks on my MK2 a few years ago, based around a new ignition lock. A new 16V torch key and 5 barrels came to £120 from the dealer.....so it's not cheap, but not really expensive either. New lock barrels are lovely though and they feel tight and secure.

 

Be careful not to lose the brass tumblers if you strip the barrels, you need the key in the barrel when taking it out of the handle otherwise the tumblers will drop out on the floor.....

I had new locks made up for my C. I had one for starting 1 for doors and 1 for boot real pain. VW garage brreze in Poole charged me £10 per lock and £8 to make the lock up for the doors and the boot to the inigition key.
