g60steve 0 Posted January 9, 2004 Havin problems finding a decent 2.9 VR6 engine to replace the blown one in my 93 K reg Corrado VR6.I'm considering putting a Golf Highline 2.8 engine in as a last resort. Is this conversion as straight forward as fitting the engine with it's matching ECU or are there other parts required. :?:
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 9, 2004 Yeah it will go in OK but you will need some of the loom, the MAF and the ECU from the Highline donor car as it's a fully OBD2 engine, as opposed the 2.9 being OBD1. Best bet would be to take the entire loom etc and see what's needed. It's worth noting that the Highline engine has the Corrado throttle body and inlet manifold, so they produce more power than the regular 2.8. Stealth see standard highlines kick out in the region of 185bhp quite regularly. VW never disclosed the power hike though. The 2.8 rarely suffers the infamous bore no 6 problem either. And then when the 2.8 wears out, you can take it out to 2.9 again with the correct pistons! So you're onto a winner really. K
PhatVR6 0 Posted January 9, 2004 get a 2.8 block and bore it out. go for a 3.0 or 3.1 whilst your'e at it.
Mike Edwards 0 Posted January 9, 2004 Or, just fit the sensors, ecu and loom from your existing - knackered - engine to the highline one. Also, fit the inlet manifold and associated plumbing. The Golf engine develops more torque at low revs, so may actually feel quicker...
