Bump strips, handles roof plastics

HOw do I get the colour back into these external plastics? I used the cheap back to black stuff from halfords, I was pretty good as I caked it on, but when it rained it ran onto the bodywork and panels..whats a good product to get the colour back and for it to stay like it for a while at least? Also when cleaning the car when should I treat the plastics? I will be getting some 3M tape for the next time I polish to

I was once told that black boot polish does a cracking job, but never tried it myself

The oil helps because that's what leaks out of the plastics over time causing them to fade in the first place.

 

Obviously I'm not suggesting that it's peanut oil that leaks, but it's a good replacement. Linseed oil is also supposed to be quite good.

I also heard that warming the plastics with a hairdryer whilst you apply this stuff help to absorb the oils
