Brand new 2.9 block/pistons on ebay

This item has been sold for £255 + 30 p&p. It was a factory block with pistons/ rings minus the oil pump, con rods, and crank. I was tempted but it was probably too much and an overbored 2.8 would be the cheaper option. What do you guys think, was it worth that kind of money?

That kit would cost over £3k from VW in that condition...!

Is it worth it? It is to someone who's after a new block and has the rest of a good engine, cos you'll have the basis of another ten years of trouble free VR6 (ha) motoring, but...

Matt, a 'complete' short engine from VW is £3K mate!

 

That block and pistons would be perfect for a 2.9 rebuild but anyone wanting to build a 2.9 from scratch, prolly not worth it as the crank and rods will cost a fortune if you can find them s/hand.
