Heater Matrix query / certain models?

Recommended Posts

perhaps someone can assist me - I had a heater Matrix go on me in my last VR. The model was 1994 and the milage when it happened was 115,000miles.

After speaking to a seller of a 1996 (obviously very late 1995 model) VR with 126,000 on the clock, he said he's had no issue with Matrix  He has owned it during the time it would normally 'go' at.

Is he just lucky it hasn't gone yet / was the matrix issue sorted for 1995 models?

I've got 5 more years and 50K more miles on my original matrix than you have (1990 car), I think it's more down to frequency of coolant change and mix/quality of coolant than anything else, I only changed my original radiator because the fins were looking a bit worse for wear from stones, no noticeable cooling difference from the brand new one.

The last of the Corrados may have got the strengthened mk3 matrix but I don't think that will help longevity if tap water is used with the wrong type or wrong strength of additive.

I'm pretty sure it's just luck. Haven't met someone that hasn't done it at some point tho.

I have had my 1993 VR6 for a year and a half and the matrix hasn't gone yet and there is no recepit of this job in the service histroy either, the car is on a 148k, think its just a matter of time before it goes pop! :(
